Backpacking through Italy one summer we happened upon an abandoned villa. We stayed there for weeks, living like tramps and kings. We washed our clothes in a nearby creek and hung them to dry in the foyer beneath a majestic chandelier. We feasted on food "borrowed" from local fields and sat for hours talking about life and love and things of great and little importance. At night we built a fire in the grand fireplace and slept in front of it. Sometimes when he would wake to feed the fire he would wake me, too, and we would make love half-sleeping like a dream. A dream, a dream, it was all a dream.. but I could have stayed there forever.

Thanks for the inspiration Saskia.

Nine years ago, sitting at the kitchen table with my mother and my little brother. We're playing Life. Mom lands on the "Congratulations, you just had twins" space. She snarls with disgust as she shoves two pink pegs in her car. Nonchalantly she says, "If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have any kids." My brother and I look at each other. Three years later our baby sister is born.

The Shape of Days: Which is worse, a pompous ass or an illiterate jerk?

Dammit. I was just coming to write a comment about how I love the way this linguistics nerd segued from "an invocation of a time of spiritual innocence without naivete" to "totally jacks my shit", but it seems jaya beat me to it. Ah well.

My other point was that I, personally, would never call a black person "niggardly". Even though *I* know what it means I don't know if *they* know what it means, you know what I mean? The connotation of that other word would be enough to make me say something like, I dunno, "stingy" instead. If you're brainy enough to walk around talking like a dictionary then you're brainy enough to employ a little tact and common sense as well.

I also take issue with the idea that the word "utilize" is a redundant form of the word "use". "Utilize" infers practicality whereas "use" does not.

Thumbs down for "and where to buy them", thumbs down for a meaningless list with no rhyme, reason or synopses (No, I didn't just misspell that. Synopses is the plural of synopsis. Look it up.) and thumbs down for including Jesus Freaks by DC Talk. I'm sure there's more, but I already had to grow another hand.

I have a bit of a fabric obsession. Not even a very logical one, because I'm really not that crafty. I'm always falling in love with and buying fabrics and I plan to do things with them, but in reality they just sit in a huge box under my bed. This crafting blog, however, makes me want to pull that box out and make everything from the first post to the last.
