Got here following a lead from one of the coders of NoScript, giorgio Maone, who's blog, hackademix.net [hackademix.net] , is a good but scary read, especially for Windows and Apple machines. His background is dark, which as I expected does save energy, (it certainly seems to save my eyes, I gravitate towards dark background themes).

One of the best survival skills courses I've seen.

I took a hunters safety training class with my daughter, and having grown up in Montana, spending large parts of my free time outside and among others who were ex game wardens, hunters, backpackers, winter camping nuts, etc, I usually sit back and critique the "survival skills" programs my wife just loves. I was expecting yet another semi b.s, when I was blown away with this.

A number of his suggestions I was already onto, and the general tenor fits right in with what I was raised with. But a few of them were things I hadn't thought of, and when I heard them, had to give a symbolic tip of my hat.

Gene Ward, the person who mad the survival skills dvd on this site taught survival skills with the Air Force. He passed away Feb 8, 2006 from cancer at 58, and his wife is still making these DVD's and survival tools available on the site. I dug out the site, and ordered a DVD for Christmas.

Well worth your time if you're going to be running around outdoors.

Just found this tag, courtesy of ship of fools...

This site asks you first to rate the relative importance of a set of issues, then asks you a set of questions on those issues, then suggests which of the presidential candidates most agrees with your views...

Most enlightening. I found this site from a discussion on ship of fools, where I note that many of the people end up being most in sync with candidates they haven't even considered. I sadly am among this group, and now I've got some digging to do.

Found this website looking at a story about how to remove the inner zinc core in a penny leaving only the copper exterior. There are some other links here that are right up my alley, like the $72 computer (booting Damn Small Linux off a Thumbdrive)...
