"The Jackpot" is a relative term, isn't it? In my case, I mean I hit the jackpot of having both the flu and pneumonia. I can't overstate the blah-ness.

Hubby is out at a private gig tonight, so I am home alone. I've gone to the video store and am even watching "The Doors" for the first time from On Demand. I've waffled between keeping it a secret and calling some of the girls. I think I'm going with keeping it a secret. ;)

*I do not know who wrote this originally, but am looking for whom to give attribution.

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

I then took a shower in the clean water provided by a municipal water utility.

After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC-regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like, using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

I watched this while eating my breakfast of U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

At the appropriate time, as regulated by the U.S. Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the U.S. Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank.

On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the U.S. Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.

After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and Fire Marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department.

And then I log on to the internet -- which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration -- and post on Freerepublic.com and Fox News forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right.

I see all of your lovely faces stopping by my pages to see if I've done anything new. Well, obviously I haven't ceased to be, like a Norwegian Blue Parrot, but I have been very lax about SU. I promise I will do better in the coming days. I've been overwhelmed with work, with family, and with health issues. Work and family are receding from being active in my consciousness, and health is being resolved. (On my way to one of the docs today)

So, all that to say, I'll be back. Soon. Maybe some this afternoon. ;) But I love you guys and appreciate your sticking with me. You ROCK! And don't forget to follow me on Twitter -- @suzannereed is the name...clever, yes? ;)

Y'all know I live in the south. Well, apparently, I live in Hooterville, USA. No, not the Hooterville that would be populated by silly girls in tight tank tops and microshorts. I'm talking about the Hooterville that used to be on TV...you know...like on "Green Acres"? Why do I say this, you ask? Because my neighbor is currently using a power washer to blast away the dirt from around the roots of a tree he recently cut down. He's doing this to avoid having to pay for a stump grinder or removal service. Why did he take the tree down, you ask? So he can put in a swimming pool for his daughter. Are swimming pools allowed on the side yards of houses in our neighborhood? Noooooooo. Does he know this already, because he cut a water line when preparing for this and had a visit from the codes department people, telling him he could not put in an inground pool, and that the only kind of pool he could put there would be no more than 24" deep and less than 100 sqf in area? Yessssssss. Did I also mention that our house sit down some really steep slopes, which means that any kind of pool put there would require an awful lot of leveling, not to mention upkeep and replanting grass or something to keep the NAKED DIRT from washing everything down into our creek? I'm so not making this up.

Hooterville, I tell ya....

Is it just me, or is it completely obvious that Capitalism is not working, due to GREED? I don't care what party you claim, the bottom line is that people in charge of enormous sums of money, including the military industrial complex, have STOLEN from us all. The ones in the money game cheated, lied, and mislead in order to pump up THEIR profits, not ours. People in the MIC sell increasingly destructive products for many many times what would be a reasonable price -- selling these things at an excessive profit to OUR government, which means to US. The MIC also enjoyed ramping up the fear factor in order to create an atmosphere designed to enhance the desireability of weapons which remove the person using the weapon as far from the target as possible, so that they have less cognitive dissonance when using them. EVERY PART OF OUR ECONOMY (which means US) is suffering. The situation in the US exacerbates the conditions in the rest of the world, creating a domino-effect that results in what is almost terror at this point, and the news just keep getting worse.

Regardless of how you feel about the stimulus package, does it really matter what was done? Money only has the value that we ascribe to it -- we're no longer on a gold, or even silver, standard. So does it really matter whether it consists of spending or tax cuts (other than the fact that "stimulus" as it relates to finance necessarily equals spending -- see your Economics 101 classes)? The state of the world right now is one of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, helplessness...something's got to give. Don't let it be your soul that gives out.
