I read this article in the New Scientist, and was amazed by how myopic the author was. I haven't read the original study, but the NS piece should really have clarified a number of points, the most important of which is this: a mammal does not belong in the same category as a hunk of steel, as the latter has no definable interests or preferences.

I'm afraid I'm with yourmomsafoxxx on this one -- HFCS IS a problem in the US, but not because other sugars would be any better. We just use way too much damn sugar in our food and drinks; switching to a different sugar but keeping the quantities the same would probably do nothing. That said, foods with lots of HFCS are usually heavily processed in various other ways and on those grounds alone should be avoided if possible.

I really wish there were more incentives for tenants like me to green our apartments -- I'm not too keen on throwing down 300$ to buy these bulbs, or a greater amount in time and effort to properly insulate my old-ass apartment for the coming winter, only to move out within a few years.

The title of this piece, while catchy, is flat wrong: 'scientists prove that race has no scientific underpinnings, but it sure as heck exists as a social construct', would be a more appropriate title.
