Here's an open-source list of open-source software. I particularly recommend OpenOffice for word processing; WordPress if you happen to be a blogger with your own webspace; Ogg Vorbis, Matroska, Xvid, and Media Player Classic for audio and video needs; Audacity for audio editing and recording; the GIMP for graphics (as a replacement for the tyrannical Adobe's Photoshop); and of course Firefox for web browsing.

Now isn't this a neat and simple list for any newbie to open source software?
So I was just minding my business and this guy came out of nowhere and gave me a negative review, on my birthday even. Seeing that I don't know him and he doesn't know me, I'm assuming that he did that only based on a partial understanding of my political beliefs. Well, too bad for this judgmental person and his blatant disregard for other human beings.
This stumble brought to you, courtesy of Xtine66.

I disagree with what this article is saying. I don't believe there was any rosy past worth aspiring to. Things have always been more or less the same, but people have become smarter, more knowledgeable overall, and unfortunately, more apathetic and cynical, to the point that knowledge is no longer an end in itself to be pursued.

It's no surprise, really, seeing how the information and population explosions of the post-industrial age revealed and rocked the foundation of urban civilization -- oppression and mutual exploitation at the expense of kinship. Our society is based on an unbelievably obsolete dehumanizing model that simply chased after boogeymen rather than faced a need for fundamental change. Dysfunctional symptoms abound, and what this article describes does not even begin to touch the tip of the iceberg.
To criticize the Clinton administration, John Ashcroft said in 1997, "There is a concern that the Internet could be used to commit crimes and that advanced encryption could disguise such activity. However, we do not provide the government with phone jacks outside our homes for unlimited wiretaps. Why, then, should we grant government the Orwellian capability to listen at will and in real time to our communications across the Web?

The protections of the Fourth Amendment are clear. The right to protection from unlawful searches is an indivisible American value. Two hundred years of court decisions have stood in defense of this fundamental right. The state's interest in effective crime-fighting should never vitiate the citizens' Bill of Rights."

John Ashcroft, to support the Bush administration's and his own heinous violations of freedom and liberties in 2001, said, "To those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve. They give ammunition to America's enemies, and pause to America's friends. They encourage people of good will to remain silent in the face of evil."

Right on, Ashcroft. Hypocrisy and political opportunism (i.e. flip-flopping as they so moronically named it) always pay off when done by the Sacrilegious Right. I hope he gets tried and convicted eventually for human-rights violations and his crimes against humanity.
Why is France burning? A deeply insightful article that delves into the sociopolitical backgrounds most people are unaware of behind the 2005 riots that began in Paris. It completely unmasks bloodless fascist monsters such as Nicolas Sarkozy, whose only solution to any social problem is a blind marteau and a bottle of Kärcher. Is this the best the French Right can offer, garbage like Jean-Marie Le Pen and Nicolas Sarkozy? Ha! Let governmental paranoia on national security fight corporate greed, and hopefully the two will both die as the people sweep in to assert their defiance and rights.

From the page: Stewart Baker, recently appointed by President Bush as the Department of Homeland Security's assistant secretary for policy, made a comment that suggested that some anti-piracy efforts introduced by the[music] industry could have profound and unexpected effects on the security of the nation's critical infrastructures.
Former US President Jimmy Carter expresses his views on the Sacrilegious Right and George Bush in an interview. His beliefs are actually fairly mainstream in terms of US liberal politics, and there doesn't seem to be anything exceptionally insightful about them, but for someone as influential as Carter, there is certain more hope that people might just wake up and listen to this fellow.
Glaring incompetence and irresponsibility from ex-FEMA chief. Read the last paragraph for some master spin-doctorism.

From the page:

"My eyes must certainly be deceiving me. You look fabulous -- and I'm not talking the makeup."
...
"Do you know of anyone who dog-sits?"
...
Andy Lester, Brown's lawyer, said the committee "ought to focus" on FEMA's budget and other issues and not on e-mails that he characterized as efforts to boost morale among stressed staff and deal with family matters.
From the page:
Federal Undead Management Agency spokesperson Dr. Sheena Aurora downplayed the ZPI report, arguing that zombies move slowly and can be easily overpowered. Aurora advised citizens to look over their shoulders frequently, adding that a large shopping mall can serve as a "long-term, even fun" refuge from zombies.

Such assertions alarm zombiologist Olivier Baptiste, who calls FUMA's information "hopelessly outdated."

"Dr. Aurora's claims are based on decades-old zombie models," Baptiste said. "Widely released evidence from recent years clearly shows that zombies can run just as fast, if not faster, than a living human."

Added Baptiste: "That FUMA trains its field agents to shoot zombies in the torso, rather than the head, demonstrates just how out of touch the government is."
Nonsense. Even parents who are overprotective of their children do more harm than good to them -- not to mention the problem that this would be a faulty analogy that would needlessly exhalt the status of Middle-Eastern patriarchists. The article is full of false assumptions typical of authoritarian-conservative babble.

From the page: "In countries that have given women the so-called rights of freedom and equality and left them free to do as they wish are now shedding tears of remorse over the pathetic plight of their degeneration and disintergrating societies. Their women being economically and socially independent, are no longer faithful and dedicated daughters, wives, sisters and mothers. Marriage has become outdated and old-fashioned. Instead they prefer companionship, which is not binding upon the man or woman. Children of such parents become dilinquents and drug addicts. The whole society is decaying and disintegrating so fast that they have reached a point of no return."
I'm not necessarily anti-gun, but organizations that want to silence people are dangerous and need to be destroyed with extreme prejudice. Fortunately, it does not look like they have the resources to actually deal with these blacklisted people. I mean, what in the world could they actually do to Oprah or Britney Spears? Gun them down? Like that's really gonna help push their agenda.
The constitution of the People's Republic of China, and one of the most ridiculous documents in the world filled with lies and rights that are cancelled out by each other. An example here:

Article 35. Citizens of the People's Republic of China enjoy freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, of association, of procession and of demonstration.

Looks noble, but compare and contrast with this contradicting clause:

Article 51. The exercise by citizens of the People's Republic of China of their freedoms and rights may not infringe upon the interests of the state, of society and of the collective, or upon the lawful freedoms and rights of other citizens.
Breakdown of government? More like integration of the macrostate and the microstate -- an inevitability when people choose to believe governments and commercial companies are separate entities run on different principles.

I'm giving this a thumbs up because I believe this is the kind of twisted sociopathy in modern "Christianity" that must become publicized and as widely known as possible in order for the movement to lose credibility completely and eventually be weeded out.

From the page: "New Orleans now is abortion free. New Orleans now is Mardi Gras free. New Orleans now is free of Southern Decadence and the sodomites, the witchcraft workers, false religion -- it's free of all of those things now. God simply, I believe, in His mercy purged all of that stuff out of there -- and now we're going to start over again."
From the page: ""According to reports now, Iraqi officials have embezzled over one billion dollars. One billion dollars! So apparently they really do have a U.S.-style democracy." --David Letterman"

"The president believes the government should be limited not in size, Jon, but in effectiveness. In terms of effectiveness, this is the most limited government we've ever had." --Daily Show correspondent Rob Corddry

"According to the latest polls, President Bush's approval ratings are at an all-time low. In response, President Bush said 'Yeah, but my disapproval ratings are at an all-time high.'" --Conan O'Brien
Continuing the armed takeover of North America from the "minority special-interests group" one day at a time!

Do I want to live forever, or at least long enough to find meaning in life, to fulfil my search for knowledge and truth, to strive for the goal I might not have otherwise achieved, and to seek and spread love and all things that make us human? Heck, yes.

True immortality, of course, is probably inconceivable to the human mind, but is it wrong to want to extend life for a few centuries, a few decades, or even just a few years when you are just so desperate that you would want to cling to life, supposedly defying the "natural" cycle of life and death?

So often explored in fiction is this idea that we have demonic abominations obsessed with immortality like Voldemort and D&D liches. But is it such a twisted desire that somehow contravenes a universal moral code? Or is it simply a very human urge to survive in this horrendous world, if only to find some sort of solace in life, rather than in an unknown "afterlife" that may not even exist?

Even leaving the novel concept of true immortality or millennian life spans behind, we can still rationally realize that modern human life spans are already significantly longer than in the Middle Ages or other periods of time. Is it a perversion of nature to seek to extend life even more? I think not. I fully support this, and I hope I can live to see the day when the fruits of technology finally transform this ailing planet into Eden once more.
This is a book review discussion between three people with different views that looks at attitudes toward pornography as it relates to women and relationships. I find that all three of them raise important questions and offer some insightful comments to the table. It's a good read if you're interested in this issue.

From the page:
Here are a few of the many bad things Paul blames on porn: failing relationships, men's flight from intimacy, men judging women by harsh appearance standards, men liking large breasts, female body-image issues, general female insecurity, lack of sexual foreplay, male impotence, men demanding more oral sex, infrequent sex among couples--just about everything but acne. (Yes, a single explanation for every social ill is very convenient.) I'm no historian, but I'm under the impression that all these behaviors and predispositions long preceded the rise of porn ... [When] exactly was the golden age of relationship bliss that Paul thinks porn has torn asunder?
This is oddly hilarious. I guess it's because of the abruptness in her "character switch" and her overall unmoving body. It just feels pretty disconcerting, and her image does fit a stereotypical psychotic person. The accent is quite exaggerated and sounds rather fake, but that's just my opinion.
