Freecell Solver (fc-solve) is a powerful, open-source, feature-rich and fast automated solver for many types of Solitaire games, including Freecell. It runs fine on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and most reported UNIX versions including GNU/Linux. Its web-site is comprehensive and contains many links, documents, discussions, information, a mailing list, a blog and other resources.

Freecell Solver was integrated into several open-source and commercial Solitaire implementations.

Caveat: I am the originator of this page and the Freecell Solver program in question.

Very good article about what makes programmers like their languages. Some of the points there are brevity, being a scripting language, writing throwaway programs, having libraries and APIs and stuff. Very good stuff.
