Over the past 10 years charitable down payment assistance organizations funded in part by home sellers have:

* Helped over one million people become homeowners.
* Given over $4 billion in cash for down payment assistance.
* Spurred $11 billion of direct spending with $24 billion of net economic impact.
* Never used government money or taxpayer dollars.

Yet, some members of Congress and the Administration want to end these programs.

During the current housing crisis, ending these programs would increase foreclosures and destabilize home values by denying over 100,000 qualified homebuyers annually from purchasing a home.

This action would:

1. Affect hard working families all across the country.
2. Force the government to spend your taxpayer dollars to create a replacement program (in other words, a bailout).

You MUST speak up now! This program can be protected if you act now. Tell the Members of Congress and the Administration that this programs helps working class Americans and should NOT be ended.

Instructions:

1. In your own words, express your objection to the Government eliminating charitable down payment assistance funded, in part, by home sellers.
2. To ensure your comment isn't ignored, you must clearly express the supporting reason(s) for your opposition. This may include some of the following reasons:
1. A number of recommendations have been made to strengthen these programs, our leaders need to act on these recommendations and not eliminate the program.
2. I don't want my taxes raised to pay for another government program.
3. I was able to purchase my first home because of charitable downpayment assistance and still live in my home today.
4. No one in my family can help me with the downpayment.
5. My employer cannot help me with the downpayment.
6. I cannot save for a downpayment on my own but, I can afford a mortgage.
7. As a small business owner, this rule would put me out of business.
8. How does the elimination of the program help and not hurt the national economy and what governmental study, if any, has been undertaken to analyze the impact on the national economy

Ashes And Dust

I smell burning
I feel ashes and dust
Spots dance before my eyes
