I have attended dozens of workshops over the years, and when I narrow down their take-aways to those impact-full bits which have truly stayed with me, a now-yellowed handout [with this Riddle] is the first thing which pops into very clear focus in my mind's eye.

From the page: "RFL is a monthly stream-of-consciousness exercise in which you take pen and paper in hand (or sit at your computer keyboard) and quickly jot down 5 things you feel you have learned over the past month as a lifelong learner. The self-reflection can be quite useful to you..." explains great monthly 5 minutes for all learners.

Learning and applying the 8 Beatitudes as guidelines for Customer Service. Exceptional!
From the article: Regardless of your own spiritual outlook, it's safe to say that the account of Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount" fully qualifies, at the very least, among the best of so called wisdom literature. If you aren't familiar with it, the sermon is in the Christian bible, in the book of Matthew. The contents of that particular sermon have been dubbed "The Beatitudes." There are eight bits to the beatitudes and I believe that, taken as a whole, they are probably the best guidance ever given for customer service. I say "taken as a whole" because each of the beatitudes can be overwrought and misapplied when taken out of the context of the whole. The idea here is to view your customers through this lens of the beatitudes. Once you're able to see your customers through this lens, the next step is to view oneself through the same lens. The inevitable result is a deeper understanding of the common threads of humanity."

A terrific anthropological romp about the number 8, in celebration of our 8th month of the 8th year of our 21st century, and as prelude to the upcoming 08-08-08. After reading this short article by Rick Hamrick you will never think about the number 8 in the same nonchalant way again.

Wonderful view on learning within self-reflection, and how we author story within "spaces of meaning" with reference to the phrase as coined by philosopher Owen Flanagan in his book, The Really Hard Problem. From the post author: "Remember, a story is created by telling of the present as it is emerging from the past in the light of future possibilities."

How we can cause subtle shift in our living with kaizen is a concept I love sharing with my coaching clients, and David Masters has written a terrific introduction I can point them to, particularly with his inclusions of the butterfly effect and tipping point concepts. The money quote: "For kaizen to work, two key ingredients are required. The first ingredient is thoughtful reflection. The second ingredient is massive action."

Blog memes can often be little more than just silly. However, every so often you come across a response to one that is thoughtful beyond measure, and gets you to hunt others like it. This is one of those jewels by Amy Palko about her passion for teaching.
