You know nazi death camps, right? You know that such things don't happen anymore? Well, if you do then I have to wonder how have the mainstream media, even though it seems all powerfull in hiding truth, managed to make you believe such.

There are worse things happening around the world all the time and here is a story from a work camp in North Korea. Sometimes these things make me feel that it's almost wrong to be a pacifist.

On my *nix blog, HackNBlog I wrote this article about a Linux process viewer application. Here is some highlights of the text:

Many people using linux prefer to use console based process viewer instead graphical ones like gnome system monitor. Usually they thus end up using the most known interactive process viewer, "top". "top" however is old and by todays standards not as clear and good to use (the UI is sooo 90's) but most people don't know of anything better.

There is however a great alternative, "htop", which resembles quite a lot the old "top" but is much more clearer and has much better and easier usability, functionality and look. A screenshot is provided below, but check my HackNBlog article on this application.

On my blog there is a poll on the subject: Has there been a year of Linux yet (this [2009] counting)? - with 6 choises ranging from "Yes, most definately and everyone should see it!" to "Not for me, not for anyone else. That would be ridiculous!"

Please participate and give your vote!

Problem: How to install XMMS for Linux distro that dropped supporting it? Read on...

Several Linux distributions have been dropping support for old XMMS audio player for various reasons.
My desktop computer is running one of those distributions (Debian) that just rolled from previous stable, Etch, to new Debian 5 (or Lenny) and I was shocked when I noticed that my favorite audio player had been automatically removed! :o

Anyway, after thinking about switching audio player software for a while and checking feature lists and screenshots of some I came to conclusion that while there are lot's of very advanced players available the fact remained that XMMS still has it's merits and for my peculiar needs it was the best one available (yeah, I know about Audacity, it's not the same).

So check this blog entry of mine to find how you can install XMMS on Debian and Ubuntu systems - and no compiling from source required :)
