Book sculpture featuring a "stained glass window" made out of discarded microfilms.
The sculpture hangs in the bell-tower closing the priory walls. Behind the book wall is the Romainm�tier Abbey Church.

I am INSANELY busy right now....

a flurry of activity in and out of the studio

(I've just realised that I have less than 3 months to finish all the work for my Masters)

EEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!

You'll only see me in here checking mail (etc.) over the next while (well that's the plan....)

******* have had all heck breaking loose here over the past week.....

in an ironic turn of events (given the pic up on top of my SU site) I've had a large bushfire press in close to my home here at the creek (my neighbours were advised to evacuate over the weekend) all is calm (fire is still alight and making a nuisance of itself) but I don't have internet at the creek - so I'm out and about (in the smoke) working on whatever computer I stumble over....

fire descends the south eastern face of gulaga mountain

As mentioned in the previous post - I've been offline for more than 2 weeks - and this has been what I've been watching for the majority of that time... I've been quite safe here, a couple of kms from the fire front but it has been a tense time for my darling friends over the hill (and up against the flames...)

Gulaga ('mother' as known by local Kooris - the indigenous and original inhabitants of our area) is an ancient extinct volcano - the sight of flames spewing down the sides of the mount was absolutely amazing!

it is however a timely (if out of season) reminder of just what it is like to live cheek by jowl to hundreds of kilometres of eucalypt forest in rural australia

I'm feeling a bit guilty and sad

for the first time in years I didn't get around to sending something

to the annual book arts exhibition at artisan books

oops....

***hey an update on the books front....

I just got word that last night I received an award at the National Books Arts Award at East Gippsland ....

unfortunately it was not the $5000 first prize (bummer)

but any award is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick I say...

this one has been the nest site
for many pairs of wedge tail eagle and sea eagle.

it's been a few years since
a breeding pair of either species set up home...

SPACEBALL GIF BUSTER!

Ever had your photoblogging curtailed by a nasty little spaceball gif?

Well I accidentally stumbled over an easy way to overcome the annoying bugger - and it doesn't involve installing any add-ons to the tool bar - or elaborate actions....

here's my simple way for the non-techie person for capturing and SU photoblogging a spaceball gif image

I'm going to state - I am VERY non-techie... so no technical terms will be used in the explanation!

Of course the starting point is finding that desired image on flickr.... so I'm assuming you've got the flickr page open and on screen.... ready?

1. 'select all' - so that all the bits and pieces on the flickr page are covered in the lovely 'select all' blue

2. now look at the image you so want to blog.... look right at the bottom of it - do you see the thin line, like a border at the base of the photo?... 'right click' on that tiny little line ( you have to be absolutely exact - and click ON the line... it may take a couple of attempts to get the line....its TINY!)

3. select 'view image'..... and hey presto.... there is your gif-free version of the pic (if you get a blank page... you clicked up too far in the blue selection... and got that pesky gif again.... if you are outside the tiny line, you get page... and there's no 'view image' to be had..... you must, must, must click the tiny little space that looks like a line at the bottom of the pic)

4. Your image is now free to SU photoblog in the usual manner... so feel the spirit of the pirate flow through your being - and blog away me hearties (sniggering and cackling are optional.... but I certainly indulge in both...)

Well it's time for me to pack up my wares and head off to my uni (a delicious 1500km round trip... through the bloody BOONIES .... alone in my clapped-out old car.... fortunately I only have to turn up once a year... and in 6 short months time I should have that Masters in my hot little hands... wheeeee!!!!!!!!!)

Things in my inbox

Righto - this is how things are done around here....

I ignore and delete random things dropped in my inbox

try not to take it personally - I'm just not overly friendly - and what meaningful way can I reply to: 'hi to you - hope your day is good'.... ?

the way to my heart is through art (and obviously I'm a shocking poet) and I often 'know' a bit more about arty things than what I may post (I often know a great deal less...) so if you are a genuinely arty-farty type - we may well have something to talk over (but I tend to prefer MAKING art than blabbing about it - so I'm inconsistent and unreliable in any conversation... including any chat about what I may be making at any given moment)

again don't take it personally... artists are just sooooooo impossible
