Two shall be born, the whole wide world apart,
And speak in different tongues and have no thought
Each of the other's being, and no heed.
And these, o'er unknown seas, to unknown lands
Shall cross, escaping wreck, defying death;
And all unconsciously shape every act
And bend each wandering step to this one end -
That, one day, out of darkness they shall meet
And read life's meaning in each other's eyes.

And two shall walk some narrow way of life
So nearly side by side that, should one turn
Ever so little space to left or right,
They needs must stand acknowledged, face to face.
And, yet, with wistful eyes that never meet
And groping hands that never clasp and lips
Calling in vain to ears that never hear,
They seek each other all their weary days
And die unsatisfied - and this is Fate!

Susan Marr Spalding [1841-1908]

Je me suis vu moi-même
Toujours en lutte
Avec le "moi"
Une lutte monstrueuse
Pour vivre ou mourir.
La paix,
La paix intérieure
La douleur, le désir de réussir
L'envie de mourir
Quand tu as échoué !
La défaite intérieure
Et le "moi" qui triomphe
Et moi-même battu
La terre est là
Elle s'ouvre
Elle attend le corps
Désormais quasi-mort
Et le "moi" qui résiste
à la guerre inégale
Entre vivre et mourir.

Fallen Angel

I have fallen from sky,
Fallen to the ground,
I am the angel of sadness,
Angel of lost hopes,
Angel of lost dreams,
I am the fallen angel,
Fear me not,
I am here for reason,
That reason is to have a second chance in life,
That life I was given for a reason,
They took my wings,
They took me apart made me human,
I was the fallen angel,
But that fallen angel had one chance in life that she was given,
This angel won't make the same mistakes she made before,
This angel will go down the right path that has been chosen for her,
This fallen angel know what she has to do to be forgiven.

Retour vers La Merveilleuse Légende

La terre, unie comme la paume de la main , s'est couverte d'un gazon vert tel le cou des paons ;

"The Perfect Heart"
"One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town proclaiming that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley. A large crowd gathered and they all admired his heart for it was perfect. There was not a mark or a flaw in it. [...]
Suddenly, an old man appeared at the front of the crowd and said, "Why your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine." The crowd and the young man looked at the old man's heart. It was beating strongly, but full of scars, it had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but they didn't fit quite right and there were several jagged edges. In fact, in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces were missing. [...] The young man looked at the old man's heart and saw its state and laughed. "You must be joking," he said. "Compare your heart with mine, mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears."

"Yes," said the old man, "yours is perfect looking but I would never trade with you. You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love - I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them, and often they give me a piece of their heart which fits into the empty place in my heart, but because the pieces aren't exact, I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we shared. Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart away, and the other person hasn't returned a piece of his heart to me. These are the empty gouges -- giving love is taking a chance. Although these gouges are painful, they stay open, reminding me of the love I have for these people too, and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have waiting. So now do you see what true beauty is?"

To Catch Butterflies
by Noshi Gillani

I once thought it easy
To seize fragrance
To capture the evenings of monsoon
While sitting at home
To clutch starlight in my hand

I once thought it easy
To seize fragrance
To light the flower that is my courtyard
With the whisper of fireflies
To hold his memory in my dreaming eyes
Like roses cast upon a lake
I had thought it easy . . .

How I fooled myself! How could it happen?
`To catch butterflies, you have to go far enough.'

Translated from Urdu by Nukhbah Langah and Lavinia Greenlaw
