The Poetman Award
January 10, 2008

Side Note:
I was getting bored - not enough fanfare, no bugle boy blowing reverie, and I had just got an award as I was thinking about creating this award, so the timing wasn’t right to put out my award, and then I got an attack of the grumpys, so that pretty much nixed the idea of putting my award out - then someone died (literally) and that took the wind out of my sails, even though I am not a sailor and don’t have a bathtub, so I couldn’t really float the fleet with the flags waving and all…ya know do the award justice - so I didn’t do it for awhile…but now I have!

Is the Poetman award prestigious or funded by a major corporation?
No, The Poetman Award is the sole creation of Poetman and comes with no cash prize, incentive or vacation on the Rivera - It was created for writers who I admire or for bloggers who regularly take or have recently taken a big chance with their blog or creativity.

Can someone lobby Poetman to receive one?
No, but you can try - that will be fun - so hurry don’t wait too long, and send your well dressed representatives, padded with lavish expense accounts, to wine and dine me in expensive restaurants - only just remember that though this will feed me, it will not result in you getting the soon to be coveted Poetman award.

Can I buy one of these pretty awards to hang on my wall?
No, I may be a hobo poet, and I was known in my youth to cheat at cards from time to time but I will not besmirch the character of this award for any amount of money just so that you can impress your friends, neighbors, and countrymen with the masterful artistry of The Poetman Award - no no, no can do.

Can others nominate writers they know who are taking big chances.
Yes, that’s the short answer - I would love to know about these writers…send me their links…and I will see what I can do…

Note: For the premier of this award I want to award it to four people - 2 who have supported me from the start and 2 who have recently inspired me with their chance taking.

And the maybes dance with the wanna-be’s
everyone’s asking questions…

Night wing of dream Indian
hanging from lodge pole of
Cheyenne disaster…

Heavy hand of white face,
musket fire of take overs
and expansions…

Slow magnolia melody
strummed by dirge athletes
who are sweating…

Red glare over blue bay
and the sun melting water
until salt crystals glisten…

And the maybes dance with
the wanna-be’s everyone’s
asking questions…

Still life scholars tooth
pick big bone dioramas
in Montana…

Word men text message
stipulations of astounding
proportions…

Ghost gatherers rip sheets -
KKK march, and then meet
in conventions…

Child gorillas wear masks
making money fall from pi�atas
with confusion…

I don't usauly post a piece in two places
but in this case, I felt compelled too...

The question had not been raised…

There was a man in a rowboat...
feeling safe...and a scribe was
writing his story down...the man
had not sense enough to worry,
because drowning had not been
raised as a question.

There was a woman who was flying,
feeling safe...and an author was
writing her story down...the
woman had not sense enough to
worry, because falling had not been
raised as a question.

There were children who were
playing, feeling safe...and a writer
was writing their story down. The
children had not sense enough to
worry, because brutality had not
been raised as a question.

And then a certain kind of reality
sets in: The man drowns, the
woman falls and children are
caught in a crossfire of retaliation
and then the "reasonable"

wondered why they never raised
these questions or acted on the
conscientiousness of their
objections...?

worms wiggle memory – moths slurp soup –
tattle-tales ring school bells in halls of youth:

who’s the culpable sparrow chirping denial in the
ears of hawks counting bodies destroyed by holocaust?

who’s a patient, beating therapist pillows with child hands
into errant parents who should have loved something?

who’s doing a freak panic, bobbing a police mans head
in the normal mirror, wanting everything corrected?

who’s indifferent to blind hillbillies burning homes and
anger dogs raping the families’ women?

who’s the money pagan that seeks forgiveness through
philanthropy for stomping on the graves of parity?
