When I first heard this one the radio, I came close to being moved to tears.
Silly really - and unusual for me.
Immediately became a Chis Wood fan.

I love that Chris is firmly in the Folk tradition, yet is happy to focus on contemporary songs, some with uncomfortable subjects.
I also love his voice and delivery.

Bert Jansch "Black Waterside"

My first guitar hero.
I post this having come across Led Zeppelin's adaptation of Bert's version of this song and also Jimmy Page playing Bert's guitar riff at the beginning of a live version of 'Kashmir'.
So many famous guitarists cited Bert as an inspiration, but later generations know little about him.

Traffic - The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys

This is my favourite Traffic song: its structure, the movements from Minor to Major, that hypnotic piano riffs, the various sections/tempos and the opportunity for fine musicians to improvise, all blend successfully together. I think of it as Traffic meets Soft Machine.
They did little better.

One of my favourite musicians. He managed to combine excellent song-writing skills with what today people call rap. Unafraid of making a harsh social critique in the days when most popular musicians saw their duty to comment upon the state of society, his analysis was just too uncomfortable for many.

Check out "The Bottle' for observations on alcoholism that are just as pertinent over 30 years later.
