*9/26/02
Shooting marbles at the moon (actuarial table and a jar of marbles)

One by one
With the passing moon
My jar empties...

Tiger eyes, days of our lives
Rainbow ribbon glass jewels
Shot into the night
Full moons biter sweet sight

My glass jar, was so full
One less marble with each pull
The sling shot, It's a wrist rocket
Padded forearm, I can really cock it

I took for granted my marbles and time
Knowing now
Neither was ever really mine

Like a grain of sand erases a dune
Mark my time with the phase of the moon

In my mind, the hour glass
Above ...below... my future and past
This moment in the middle
Is where I'm cast

Part of me hates that hole in the sky
I cant say it, but you know why
Were born...we live, then we...

With my last shot I realized
There's moon light in all our eyes .
sound so cliché...
"Live life to the fullest, live for today"

I use to keep my jar out of sight
To visual the reminder, a futile fight
I've realized
I need that moon light in my eyes

I got my jar down from that shelf
What I was guarding was my self
Now each day I smile as I pass
That beautiful vessel of colored glass

I treasure each marble that's still mine
Savoring each and it's reflection of time

So Pull back hard, shoot for the stars
Live your life like its the bottom of the jar
Tell people you love them,
Tell them again and again

Step into the night
Shoot for the moon
Launch a marble out of sight

Its not just you
Shooting marbles at the sky
Not just you, with moon light in your eye

With each expression of love and care
Agates, Cateyes, Jaspers fall from the air
As you give love
Marbles like rain, fall from above

Your jar will never be empty
Your Soul will never die,
So pull back hard
Shoot for the sky..

Burning Man 2002 Artist David Best's Temple of Joy under construction.

My very first sunrise in Black Rock City. I knew this moment, my eyes welling with tears the emotional lump in my throat... this was a very very special place. Later it would be filled with some of the most beautiful people on the planet. I was one of them. I remember this moment captured. A Birthday of sorts?

I've been changed by the experience of Burning Man. I imagine a fire burns with in me. With each reflection or trip to Burning Man I have more and more frequent "delusions" of my own angelic potential.

I seek moments or situations to exibit kindness with out agenda, to love with out ego, to gift with out expectation. (Is Ego is commerce?)

It's harder than I thought to just give. Even now my words say one thing yet I seek something. "giving something to to get something" I recognize it, struggle with it and realize how some of it (must be?)is necessary.

LOVE, it's inside us, feed it with acceptance, respect, a helping hand even just a smile and kind word... do it with out the agenda of quid pro quo, do it for no reason, do it with out a ego that's fishing for something in return...

If you still need a reason or have trouble throwing off the motivation or the commerce that has been tied to goodness (that maybe you and I have been brain washed into?) Do it because It will feed the glowing ember inside you providing the fuel the ember needs to reignight. With each guesture of goodness with out agend the ember grows hotter... one day it sparks, feed it.

You'll feel its warm goodness inside, you'll begin looking people in the eye hoping to spark the fire with in them or reflecting there own fire.

My attraction to Burning Man? Kinda primal..

Dancing around a fire with people who care for you, no agenda or expectation. Faces all a glow with the warmth and golden hue that only fire provides. The pounding drums, your own heartbeat in concert with with thousands of others, the beauty and peace of the desert, the vastness of the sky above, the celebration of not being afraid to be who you are... Dancing and living with out your default mask(s) If only for a few hours opens your eyes to the energy that lies with in. LOVE.

One of my favorite quotes....

"For it is a fire that, kindling its first embers in the narrow nook of a private bosom, caught from a wandering spark out of another private heart, glows and enlarges until it warms and beams upon multitudes of men and women, upon the universal heart of all, and so lights up the whole world and all nature with its generous flames."
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882),

I hope you have something's your passionate about.

Of course I'm talking to myself above. I'm reminding myself that the Man burns in 328 days.

Be amazing!

Midweek (not my photo, sad to say) photo of the Temple at Night

Here's another... amazing huh? Maybe you should come (back) this year?

So maybe you're asking how big is Burning Man? Well... I was lucky enough to see Black Rock City from the air in 2006. Here's my picture of the city on Thursday (mid event) and the population is about 40,000

This past year 2008, the city was nearly 50,000 strong.

Keep in mind that this is the largest "leave no trace" event in the world, that means that the playa where the festival is held must be returned to is pristine pre event status each year..

There is not a garbage can any where, you carry it in you carry it out!
