This list is based on observed events and analyses published here and there on the internet. The objective is to to help people better understand techniques to manipulate the masses in France and elsewhere in the world, so that we can get out of the mind prison in which the global elites are trying to hold us. Dishonesty, duplicity and lies under every possible form. Any contribution to this text is welcome.

Haste effect

Sounds like a joke? Guess again. One of Karl Rove's techniques is to move faster than intellectuals can react.

Clean Slate effect

Rolling back social progress and traditions of social cohesion by taking advantage of all possible propaganda themes, such as by exploiting or provoking catastrophes -- financial (such as embezzlement of Social Security funds in France), natural, internal violence, wars, etc. Cutting funds for 'dangerous' social science studies Confounding public historical knowledge by hijacking anti-establishment movements (ie. Jaures, Guy Môquet's letter) The systematic worldwide use of the Clean Slate effect by the Neocons was largely described by Naomi Klein as the 'Shock Doctrine'. It allows ultra-capitalist and police state policies to be implemented, where the market, far from being free, is systematically controlled by laws pushed by lobbies.

Smoke Screen effect

Controlling the press and focussing on emotionally divisive issues in order to prevent serious topics from being discussed (such as the EU Treaty, the 'Code du Travail' (labour laws), constitutional reform, the erosion of civil liberties, the participation of France in current wars, the French nuclear weapons program, etc). Setting up a cult of personality by showing only the leader's obvious qualities and portray him as being 'in charge' of every situation. Stiring up the masses emotionally with its own unhapiness Distributing free newspapers for the masses to read, which creates a hive mind effect, enhances the Smoke Screen effect.
Techniques to manipulate the masses
Part 2

The 'Demagocracy' effect

Making democracy gradually disappear by eluding fundamental choicses (no electoral consultation), by eliminating political parties that get in the way of elitist interests (ie. MoDem, a French alternative party independent of the left-right paradigm), by reducing choices to two almost identical alternatives, by reducing freedom of expression (pressure, laws, etc), and reducing debates to sensationalist events. Muddling the waters by hiring opportunists from amongst the former 'opponents'. Democracy will never allow ultra-capitalism to flourish; such was the conclusion of the Chicago School.

The Ego effect

The best weapon against social cohesion is to remove guilt from egotism and raise it to the level of a social value. Popularising the idea that anyone can succeed (in fact, few will get to the top, and they already did). Portraying leaders as shameless role-models for egotism.

The Personal Attack effect

Several cases of direct threats against people have been reported. Discrediting opponents on the personal front by implicating them in dubious affairs (ie. Clearstream).

The Gaza Strip effect

Doing nothing under any circumstance that could address the root causes of violence in the suburbs; instead pulling the plug on them. Those outlaw zones are needed to justify state repression.

Putting a country to sleep
Techniques to manipulate the masses
Part 3

The Complication effect

Proposing texts too difficult to understand for the common people (EU Treaty, 'Code du Travail', constitutional amendments), whilst presenting them simplified versions. Making them believe that they are in the common interest, even though the modifications benefit overwhelmingly the rich classes and the multi-national corporate interests. Making situations complex enough that people cannot identify the real causes of their problems and cannot emerge from them.

The Identity effect

Encouraging corporatism and division along identity lines (e.g. geographic, religious, ethnic, medical) in order to sap global social cohesion. Promoting ad hoc over general solutions.

The Low IQ effect

Stop thinking. The government's ministers told you to! The intellectuals are bad French citizens (Sarkozy's speach to the US). In addition, by keeping his agenda hidden, Sarkozy can pretend to have a simple strategy.

The Scapegoat effect

Every problem should be blamed on a bad guy who abused a situation (amongst the people of course, not those who scheme and benefit). It's not our fault, so it's totally unacceptable. And before we catch the culprit, we will have to pay.

The Victim effect

Shame on he who criticises when everything is being done to solve the problems. And besides, everything must be done to act (such as eroding separations of power).

The Accuser effect

He who accuses first is the arbitrator of justice. It's so comforting and efficient to accuse others of what you don't want others to see of you (injustice, foreigner, psychological problems, swindlers, rabble, bums).
Techniques to manipulate the masses
Part 4

The 'Everyone is guilty' effect

Blaming the people for all the problems (pollution, healthcare).

The 'Justice' effect

Cloaking oneself in justice only to dismantle it. Let everyone forget that there is no justice without social cohesion. Justice in a fundamentally unjust society is nothing but a sham.

The Inversion effect

Reverse all moral judgments. It's unfair to criticise the rich, but it's fine to take it on others because they probably did something wrong and deserved it.

The Yes / No effect

Either yes or no. Taking position on everything, even poorly asked questions (presenting a partial or incomplete view of them is enough). Anyone who disagrees is free to leave. Middle ground positions are excluded, resulting in extremist movements.

The 'Fear and security' effect

The most obvious one. Using 9/11 as a pretext, installing cameras everywhere, controlling all communication on the Internet, making DNA databases the norm, removing legal weight from presumption of innocence (except for the rulers, of course). Pay attention to the new tracking technology (RFID chips, Windows Vista, DRM). Pay attention as well to new terrorist threats (Europe is now officially the new target of the alleged Bin Laden).

The Force effect

Reinforcing repressive brutal force (flash ball, taser, drones). Every good citizen must be as obedient as a sheep. Increasing the scope of repressive laws (repeat offenders, minimum sentences) by making widespread what was at first obtained from cases that incensed the public (ie. DNA samples from sexual offenders at first, then for all offences, except for financial crimes). Meanwhile, financial crimes and white collar crimes are being decriminalised in secret.

Putting a country to sleep
Techniques to manipulate the masses
Part 5

The Scientism effect

Simplistic pseudo-science is attractive to the public, and can be used to defend even the most morally unacceptable ideas and set precedents for them. An example is attempts to mix justice with medicine (researching hereditary bases for delinquency in the DNA, judging the mentally ill, etc). Those methods have been successfully used by other totalitarian regimes.

The Warmonger effect

Designating an enemy (e.g. Iran) in order to prepare the people to war, which is one of the best ways to enforce authoritarian legislation and hide economic recessions.

The Sleep effect

The basic ingredient, necessary to make it all work. The individual is disoriented with all the above inflicted on him, force-fed with advertising, infatuated with consumption, games, sports events and inane websites. This is the effect that allows all the others to work, so this is the one that must be urgently addressed. Look at fear to get out of manufactured nightmares, and affirm life and freedom by exchanging, sharing and loving.

Any ressemblence between this list and manipulation techniques used by sects is coincidential (or is it?). Combine all those techniques with expedience, and you obtain all the ingredients for a war against democracy, freedom and social cohesion. The global end game is never revealed, but can be read between the lines: the elimination of notions of justice and social cohesion, total enslavement to money and the permanent enshrinement of the elite which has already long ruled the planet, in a context of emergency due to the exhaustion of global resources. This policy will lead to extremist uprisings.
