A quick sketch I did on an information form for a psychiatrist that I was filling out. I was asked to list the problems I had that brought me there. There three lines given for the question were only enough space for about one tenth of what I wrote, hence all the writing around the margins.

It pretty much sums up how I was feeling at the time, And how I've been feeling for much of the last few years (and especially the last few months.)

I've always been nervous around people. In school, I got by; I was happy enough most of the time, and when you've known everyone around you, its hard to feel too alone. Since I finished high school, though, most everyone seems strange, and the sense of isolation and emptiness just builds and builds. The loneliness turns into anxiety, which turns into fear, into angst, into nothingness. Into hatred that has no direction... and ends up just slowly welling up inside of me. Days spent at home in my room, doing nothing, staring at a wall, too scared to go outside.

Our meeting went well enough, and I feel a bit better now. I'm going to start taking some antidepressants, and I'm probably going to go to a four-year college in the Spring.

Maybe I'll have fun. Maybe I'll meet some people. Maybe I'll meet a girl. I sure as hell hope so. I need to laugh. I need someone to hold. God knows I can't take too much more of this.

Doesn't it seem like a really bad idea building houses out of wood? A material whose biggest asset (aside from its usefulness building things) is the fact that it can catch on fire really easily?

I realize that it's cheap, attractive, and light. I also realize that, at one time, our only alternative building materials were rocks and mud, neither of which are too aesthetically pleasing or easy to build with. That said, bricks, concrete and steel have been viable alternatives for quite some time now, and you'd think that, by now, we would have moved to some kind of material that isn't really, really flammable.

Making houses out of wood is one of those really bad ideas that no one seemed to realize is a really bad idea. Like painting a zeppelin in rocket fuel, or making dishes out of a material that turns into tiny invisible knives if you drop it more than a few inches.
