This week, the nearly 30-year-old ban on drilling off of America's
coastlines will expire because Congress has not renewed it.

As a 45 year old Native Californian growing up on the beach in Southern
California and still living on the beach, this is deeply distressing to me.
The ocean is in my blood, it's a lifestyle, a way of life and this ridiculous
political idea to start drilling offshore so the pockets of big oil and everyone
connected to them can make more money off of lies makes my blood boil.
All the millions/billions of dollars that will be invested in this scam could just
as easily be invested in new alternatives.

Offshore drilling isn't a solution. The federal government's own studies
show it won't make much of a dent in gas prices. Investing in offshore
drilling at this moment in history would be the same folly as paying
corporate fat cats more money to solve the problems they created.

Offshore Oil Drilling--Fact vs. Fiction

The United States burns 24 percent of the world's oil, yet we only have 3 percent of the
world's oil reserves.

There is no correlation between increased drilling and lower gas prices. The number
of drilling permits increased by 361 percent from 1999 to 2007. And yet gas prices
more than doubled in that time.

studied the current system of drilling permits on federal lands and in federalwaters.

Drilling for more oil in the U.S. won't result in lower gas prices because oil prices are
set on the global oil market. This means that all oil produced around the world is sold
all at the same price. As U.S. citizens we wouldn't get a discount just because we
drilled for it on U.S. soil.
