Chihene is the name our ancestors gave themselves. It means Red Paint People.

All the Apaches from the region whether they were known as the Warm Springs, Ojo Caliente, Mimbres,
Coppermine, or Gila Apache identified themselves as the Chihene.

Chihene Nde is essentially interpreted as the Red Paint People of the Apache Nation.

The Peruvian government is planning to disband Peru's national organisation representing indigenous people in the Amazon, known by its Spanish acronym AIDESEP.
