I have quirky dietary requirements. This means that now and again I have frozen food delivered, packed in dry ice. When I was a student, I used to chuck it in the toilet, add some cleaner, and let it happily bubble away, cleaning the toilet and amusing my housemates. However, having seen a CSI episode with an exploding toilet, I'm not keen to chance that it won't be flushed, and I won't incur the wrath of my very reasonable landlady.

Any suggestions? I'm wondering if perhaps I could 'cook' something with it.

With any luck, it'll arrive on Tuesday...

Today is John Peel day, on the BBC at least. For quite a lot of us who love music, every day involves remembering him in one way or another - from the copies of tracks played on his show, to listening to people whose music is well known now but was once given its first audience by him. He liked what he liked, was honest, funny, and incredibly generous with his time.

Lots of gigs have been organised for tonight, the idea I think being to go and hear something new. Not an option for me this year, so between 7pm and 1am I will be listening to radio 1, which has a fittingly varied line-up for a tribute gig.

Yes, he probably would have found the whole idea of a tribute day ridiculous and embarassing. The Peel quote at the top of the bbc page about today is "I just want to hear something I haven't heard before". Every day is a good day to listen to something new, but this one is for remembering someone who listened more than most, and exposed a lot of us to music we might never otherwise have heard
