Why do some parents let their teenagers go to unsupervised parties, especially if they're at strangers' homes in other cities? Of course, these parties are also likely to include alcohol, drugs, sex and/or fights. Maybe I'm too much of a goody-goody, or maybe I'm too risk-averse. But honestly, I'm really curious about why parents allow this to happen.

Here are my theories, most of which are based on specific stories I've heard. Please let me know which, if any, you think are most correct. And please feel free to add your own!

Our national debt is $9.7 trillion today. At the rate it's increasing, we'll reach the statutory debt limit in Feb., 2010. No wonder the Bush administration wants to raise the limit from $10.6 trillion to $11.3 trillion. Either way, the party's almost over.

Photos from the scene of a truck crash in La Canada Flintridge, CA. The truck went down Angeles Crest Highway, across Foothill Blvd. and through the driveway of Hill Street Restaurant. It smashed into cars, a dumpster and a wall at the far end of the parking lot.

Governor Schwarzenegger proposed a suspension of the minimum school funding guarantee, Prop 98. That funding currently constitutes more than 70 percent of total K-12 funding in the state. Such suspension equals a $4.8 billion cut to the California state's public schools.
