I just spoke to Joyce and Mom. They are both doing pretty well. What a relief!

Next week the final wires will be removed from Willem's jaw. Then the task will be to put some weight back on him. He lost the ten pounds that I need to lose.

Oh, I also got word from my son Matthew that I am going to be a grandma again. This will be his first child, due in March of 2009. Hooray!

This morning I got a call that my sister Joyce's husband passed on during the wee hours of the day. He had been ill for an extended amount of time. Hersch was a good man. He was 56 years old.

I don't make many political statements but I do have one which I would like to share. Not really debatable for me. Just stating my opinion here.

I believe that if John McCain and Sarah Palin get elected then it will be like four more years of GW Bush, complete with Dick Cheney... in drag.
Possibly with PMS. Hey, I am not making fun of Palin being a woman. I am being sympathetic and realistic. The potential is there.

That is my opinion.

Another Oops! I did not mean to be away so long. Things have been busy and I have been a little under the weather, but, in all, things are going fine.
Willem has one week till partial removal of wires! He is talking about what foods he will eat first. lol

Autumn is settling in so quickly! All too soon winter will arrive. ugh. Cold. I am not fond of cold. Oh, well, life goes on.

It's been a busy few days. I go down to the Des Moines Catholic Worker House and help serve up dinner to the guests two nights a week now. I am enjoying it. The people are very appreciative of our efforts to feed them. Nice folks. I enjoy it immensely. It helps me to appreciate what all I have too.

Yesterday I did laundry. I did four loads. I had been putting that off for a few days. I also vacuumed. The guys helped with the rest. Nice guys for helping out, too.

I talked to Mom and Joyce today. They are both well and tired from all the company and such. They had Joyce's two grandsons, her grand daughter, and my grandson for the weekend. Pete left on the 16th to return to San Antonio, TX. Company was also in from Arkansas for a few days. Then there are the therapists to assist with Joyce's recovery and the nursing assistant that helps with her bathing, etc.

Mom must be worn to a frazzle. She is used to living by herself and doesn't do company much. Sheesh. I bet she is a nervous wreck. lol Bless her heart. She cannot get Joyce in and out of the house by herself in the wheelchair. Someone has to be there to help. Well, help doesn't come on Sundays and they had to go somewhere today. To return Hayden to his momma.
I told my manchild that I will be there in late October or early November at Grandma's for a few weeks and I expect to see him then. We have not seen one another since last September. It's been way too long.

So there you have it. My lesson today was I might be homesick for my family and I was feeling low about it. Then at the CW House I spoke to a man from Sudan who only today got to speak to his family back in Sudan for the first time since he left four years ago! Now he knows all about being homesick. The workers such as he are amazing. They are not strangers to hardship and they are here to help even if it is by serving up a hot meal or giving them a place to take a hot shower.
I'm meeting all kinds of interesting people. That makes this so much more enjoyable too.
