I woke in the sweat of a dark morning meadow, and then I knew...

I live in medieval times!
So for a start, this poem rhymes,
My face is dirt, I bathe in mud,
Wash my hair in chicken blood!

I live in medieval times!
Have never lived in foreign climes,
I once walked seven leagues from here,
Caught the plague and lost an ear!

I live in medieval times!
Rape and pillage, among my crimes,
I stretch my daughter on a rack,
Just to straighten out her back!

I live in medieval times!
A collector of assorted slimes,
Once I sought the holy snail,
Then swapped it for a yard of ale!

I live in medieval times!
Hark! I hear the church-bell chimes,
'Tis the hour to climb a tree,
As this is where I live, you see?

You're gone.
Surfing the lake of fire,

Dear Bill,
You were angry,
A talented, righteous wrath,
Seething as you smoked,
"Non-smokers, by round of applause..."

The southern sun that raised you,
Baked your opinions hard.
Perhaps it warmed your heart,
But it burnt your soul.

In the black fucking turtle neck,
Oozing spotlight sweat,
Mouth plastered to the mike,
Breathing Marlboro-scented air.

You were the gaudy Goat Boy,
Observing hapless human craving,
Pushing purity aside,
To feast on the uncut.

Pain of fact no object,
Wielding truth like a cudgel,
Cracking sheltered minds wide open.
But they came back for more.

Dear Bill,
The greatest truth,
Which sat you squarely on the ride,
Has become the revelation,
Here's hoping you were right.
