If you're trying to get things done re public policy or electoral politics, you gotta read this. Colin Delany's been in the thick of the hunt among progressives to get maximum bang out of the Internet for going on two decades, and he's giving away an enormous store of hard-earned insight. In crisp, entertaining and highly distilled form, no less.

From the page: "The public depends on EPA peer review panels to help ensure the products they use every day are safe," Dingell said in the media release. "The EPA seems to have a backwards way of composing these panels. EPA is disallowing scientists who have valid public health concerns about products, while encouraging participation by so-called experts who are paid by the chemical industry."

I'm a dad, but what parent with two small children wouldn't find this useful? My wife and I both are wayyyy too busy to be all that anal-retentive about the consumer decisions we make while provisioning the family. And we're not rich either. I appreciate resources like these that just tell me simple things I can do at the grocery store and at home for our kids' -- and our planet's -- health.

Shameless horn-tootin': An OnEarth post about finding some unexpected similarities between the 1970s "back-to-the-land" environmentalism of my parents and today's less ideologically driven green movement. Kind of pleased with how it turned out.

I'm not sure how many people realize how -- on a huge numbers of fronts, against an all-out blitz from the Bush administration -- the nation's environmental lawyers has for eight years fought the administration to a standstill on most of its major initiatives to roll back environmental protections. Time and again, they've been right on the law, and have in many ways warded off a disaster. This mercury story is just a small piece of it. Heroes, I salute you!
