I just read an email from a friend that included the following statistics. I don't know how current the numbers are, or if they are now or were ever accurate. But, assuming it's straight-up, it is an interesting perspective. Enjoy...!

If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.
The rate in Washington D.C is 80.6 per 100,000.
That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq........Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington

I just updated to the latest release of StumbleUpon that allows stumbling within certain sites, which in my test, was theonion.com. As luck would have it, my first Stumble took me to the article below, about joggers "stumbling upon" the majority of murder victim bodies.

Don't know why, but seeing the words "stumble upon" hasn't been the same since I signed up shortly after StumbleUpon's came onto the scene.

I think back to the days before email and instant messaging and cell phones when land line long distance cost was significant. These days, we are all challenged to respond quickly because we can and it's cheap. But does that mandate improve the quality of human relationships? I think I would rather resist the desensitization of ubiquitous easy messaging and try to only say something, in emails or otherwise, when I actually have something significant or genuine to convey.
