I just got word today that the job I interviewed for on Monday has decided to bring me on board at almost what I was earning before I was let go. I start Monday!!

I was laid off 3/30/09 from my job of almost 3 years ... now, finally, I can say goodbye to daytime TV & get back into doing a job that I love!!

Thanks to all who gave me support & encouragement over the last few months. I have to admit, things were looking a little bleak for a while ... SU friends are the best!

This is a story about my nephew (Lawton Constitution newspaper), who some of you may remember broke his neck June 13. Kevin has been doing really well; in fact, he's at Jim Thorpe Rehab learning how to navigate in his new power chair. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts. Benefit fund set up for man who broke his neck

A benefit fund has been set up for a Roosevelt man who broke his neck during a diving accident June 13.

Kevin Lile, 28, is recovering in a rehabilitation center in Oklahoma City, reported his sister, Lori Lile-Bagley of Hobart.

Lile and a couple friends were diving into Elk Creek west of Hobart when he hit the creek bottom and broke his neck, Lile-Bagley said. He was first treated at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Lile-Bagley said, and in the early hours of June 14 he was sent by ambulance to Presbyterian Tower at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Last week, doctors performed surgery on Lile's neck, but he is paralyzed from the armpits down, Lile-Bagley said.

"He can move his arms, but not his hands," she said.

She said her brother seems to be doing well, but no one is certain whether he will fully recover or remain paralyzed for life.

"There is a chance, but it's just up to Kevin and God to do it," she said. "We're just hoping and praying."

Quite a few of my SU friends have been offering some much needed (and beyond appreciated) encouragement and support after learning that my nephew broke his neck last Saturday night.

Kevin's surgery today was as good - well, better, than we could hope for. The docs saw only what they expected to see ... no undiscovered injuries the MRI didn't show. His 8 hour surgery was done in just a hair over 6. He's just as impatient as his Aunt Mandi, apparently. :)

Anyway, I know Kev isn't out of the woods, and I know the assload of therapy and determination that he'll need would absolutely mind-fuck most of us. But he's a good kid. A really, really, good, really determined, really hardheaded kid. He's gonna make it.

For those of you keeping up, my nephew Kevin has surgery tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. on his C5/C6 vertebrae. He broke his neck Saturday night. Whatever or whoever you believe in, please send some good karma vibes my family's way.

Saturday, June 13, my nephew, Kevin, was at a river party. Everyone was drinking, and Kevin decided to dive into the river, something he'd done millions of times (literally - he's lived in the same 20-mile radius his entire 28 years). The river is low though, and his luck ran out.

I got a call about 10:30 that Kevin had broken his neck at the C5/C6 vertebrae. He was taken to Oklahoma City that night with no feeling or movement from the waist down, but sensation in his right arm.

Today, the MRI showed that his spinal cord is mangled but not severed, and the docs are cautiously optimistic that with a lot of luck and even more hard work, Kevin will walk again. He's been able to lift both his arms unassisted, which is an excellent sign.

Kevin's only 28 years old and has 3 small kids. If any family has a heartbeat, Kevin would be it. I've known him since he was an 8 yr old kid speeding his bike all over town, and I've watched him grow into this outgoing, amazing, brave and fearless man I know. I just wanted to share this with you guys, my stumble friends, because quite frankly, so many of you have lifted my spirits when I swore it couldn't be done. So take a minute & think about our family, and send some positive vibes his way. Thanks.

We just got home from our 4-day trip to Carlsbad Caverns, NM. It was a much-needed trip for us both, and we definitely made the best of it. I have been in caves before, but Carlsbad just puts it on the map. We were in there 3 days straight (the elevator girl, named Mandi, and also with a nose ring like mine) knew us by name by the 2nd day, which is always kinda cool. We were able to take 3 different tours, and I would have loved the chance to take the other 8 or so they offer, but we just ran out of time.

We also made it up to Roswell, mainly because I was kinda curious/excited about the UFO museum. Now, if you're from Roswell, please don't be offended. I thought there was a LOT of great info there. But 95% of the captions had typos (which had me pissed) and the whole "museum" looked like a science project built by a particularly bright and motivated senior class of about 20 people. We were a bit underwhelmed. I did have to give it to Roswell though ... for a piece of history that's over 60 years old, their town is permeated in all things alien. It's really pretty cool.

Anyway, we're home, and I've got much unpacking to do. I'll post some of the kickass cave pics when we get them uploaded.

OK honestly, I rarely blog. Usually I post funny pics & depend on yall (fuck you I'm southern) to place your vote. Quite frankly I could care less if my picks are thumbs up or thumbs down. I just know what I like.

ANY way ... I'm 3 beers into a 2 beer night ... and right now I can't remember my original thought. I'll definitely get back to yall if/when I remember.
