theRealDE - you sent me a message to my SU inbox but I am unable to reply unless I permanently change my profile to X-Rated which I do not wish to do. So I shall answer your question here and hope you see it; if you want to contact me again you are welcome to do so via email at ghostlove[at]gmail[dot]com.

Your question: Do you think the radical-feminism in you is a result of your mental illness?

My answer: No, I do not.

Hope that clears things up for you.

Americentric StumbleUpon

Normally I love StumbleUpon. Today however, I decided to stumble through the Politics tag and am getting more and more infuriated with every click.

Every single site I have seen so far has been about American politics.

In the topics selector, I can choose the topic 'UK'. What annoys me is that America is seen as the default. Americans have politics, families, religions, all topics just for them. For those of us who live outside of the USA, we simply have to lump it all in to one category for our country.

I don't even mind reading about American politics, but it is getting tiresome to see that Americans seem to believe the world cares who they choose as president. Honestly, Americans, think about this. There are 6.3 billion people living on this planet who are not living in the USA. Why the hell should we give a shit who you pick as your top dog? Just tell us in November who you've chosen and leave us alone!

What I am frustrated with is that when clicking through Politics, I find nothing about British politics. I find nothing about Australian politics, or French politics, or the politics of any country other than America. I'm sure when I signed up to StumbleUpon it said nothing about being a US-centric site, or that those of us of other nationalities would have to put up with finding next to nothing that actually relates to us.

To an American, this may seem unimportant. You see, you never have to think about this stuff. You've been raised thinking you're the most important country in the world. Most Americans believe that Scotland is in England, or treat the UK and Scotland as separate countries (hint: Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland are four separate countries in their own rights which together form the UK). Most Americans can't place Iran on a map.

Truly, it seems most Americans forget that the entire world is not in fact American. It is sad to see StumbleUpon seems to follow that flawed line of thought.

Follow-up: After a suggestion from the esteemed CharlesHB, I am following his lead and tagging pages as uk-politics, us-politics, etc. Hopefully if people follow suit (on other topics as well!) then we will have a better regional diversity on StumbleUpon. :o)
