With Windows, there is a common term that must of us have all heard of before, "The Blue Screen of Death". However, there is a similar death among bloggers. Something that is very common, almost more common than the good old WIndows system crash. I call it, as well as many other writers, "The White Screen of Death".

What is the white screen of death?

The white screen of death is the digital or dot Com version of common writers block. It is the bright and deathly scare screen with the blinking curser hanging on the top left side of your monitor. It is a tramatic moment, and sheds a glimpse into the life of a true writer or publisher. Gazing at your black Blogger.com or WordPress post entry form at times can be like gazing into the bright white lights of death.

Is this the end, can I no longer write on my blog anymore? Everyone wants good content and a blogger has to be the best at what he does. I just wrote a post that received over 100 comments, how can I follow another post as good as that one? Little do my readers know, I only invested a few moments of time in to the last post. How can something so silly become so popular? What do I write about now?

I could write about something happening in the news, but doesn't really contribute anything. I could post a few pictures of my dog, but that wouldn't interest anyone. How do I get the curser on my screen to start moving to the right? How do I get this white screen of death to stop pulling me into its bright lights?

Maybe I could just close the screen of my notebook and go to the kitchen and get something to drink? Perhaps, I should finally go down to the end of the drive and check the mail, I have got to do something, I have got to get the writing juices flowing.

Or, I can simply write a post about having a spurt of writers block on StumbleUpon and that will help get things flowing. Do I really have writers block? No... but unfortunately many bloggers do and its a matter of time before it happens to you.

What can you do to prevent writers block? There is a lot you can do. For one, you should come to a better understanding that 95% of writers block is mental. It's in your head. Your mind doesn't shut down, you shut your own mind down because you start to play tricks with yourself. For me, when I write, I consider myself as a river. I think and act fluidlike, and I allow my finger to flow out the words that are electronically pulsed in the sine waves within my brain.

What I think, I write and having the ability to type equally as fast as my brain can think, is a plus. Sometimes writers block can occur when you're avoiding a true topic that you really want to write about. The avoidance of writing a topic you mind wants to write puts your brain into strike. If you're brain isn't on your side, then who is? Don't try to control your writing, but istead allow the writing to control you. Allow your fingers to have direct link up with the thougths that are in your head. Sometimes, I call this "writer's auto pilot".

Allow your mind to think for itself and allow your fingers to type the words. As far as you're concerned... just shut up, don't ask questions and allow the newly found team between your mind and your fingers do the work.

Allowing your brain to take control of the situation instead of you trying to take control will quickly get you out of the white screen of death. Being in the right mindset will set you free and the moment you finally climb out of the hole and begin to white, suddenly the white screen of death becomes that Blue Screen of Death... and at that point, I can't really help you there, good luck.
