Some of you know that, among other things, I write. I recently entered my newest story in the Prism International (literary journal of the University of British Columbia) Short Fiction contest. Here's an excerpt from the email I received from the fiction editor this evening:

"Here's some very good news (on this, a Good Friday)
from PRISM international:

Your story, 'Mavis Brown', has been selected as winner
of our annual fiction contest. Our judges, Nancy Lee
and Rhea Tregebov, applauded the voice of your
narrator, and the vitality of the details in the
story.

I'm thrilled to offer you our $2000 grand prize.

So, I just visited a site called funnyjunk. It must be the graveyard for all things rejected by You Tube. I didn't give the site a rating. It's not going to get any direct clicks through my Stumble page. It's been a good ten minutes since I left the page and I still feel like vomiting. As much as I hate to reference The National Lampoon in the same breath as funnyjunk: "That's not funny. That's sick."

Crop Circle is a great indy band from the West Coast of BC. They're dedicated, talented musicians, and excellent examples of good people. Check out this brief video interview: Crop Circle. The song they're recording during this interview is called "Recent Stranger." Listen to it here.

Crop Circle's opening for Cheap Trick here in Kelowna this coming Saturday. That's where you'll find me.

It's official. My latest story was not only a finalist in the 2006 Okanagan Short Fiction contest, it finished in the money. Third Prize. I am happy. The story's in a chapbook, along with the other two winners. If you want to get a copy, message me and I will show you the way. (I don't get royalties, the proceeds go to a benevolent cause.)
