this quote is from an associated press release, cited in one of last week's editions of the arizona daily star (tucson morning rag), referencing the "taliban militants" killed in manara, afghanistan by government and NATO troops. how convenient it is that the dead consistently turn out to be "enemy combatants," at least according to reports from u.s.a. sources and allies. does no one study history anymore?

Monday, this past week, there was a brief news bulletin in our local paper that caught my cynical attention, reinforcing my conviction that most so-called servants of the faith (whatever it is) are self-serving perversions of whatever they believe they are promoting. PLACE: the Church of the Holy Sepulcher,Jerusalem; TIME: Orthodox Christianity's Palm Sunday; PARTICIPANTS: Armenian and Greek priests and worshipers; INCIDENT: fighting broke out when Armenian clergy ejected a Greek priest, pushed him to the ground, and kicked him, according to witnesses. When police tried to intervene, worshipers hit them with the palm fronds they were holding for the religious holiday.

Such events reveal some of the worst characteristics and tendencies of organized religion (of course, this is only my opinion, seldom humble btw): rigid hierarchy and gilded gate-keepers whose priority is protecting dogma and bricks and mortar. Makes for good humor, a parody of relevance. I'm still chuckling over this one!
