From the page: "My name is Lois Herr, and I'm running for Congress in PA-16.

And I am mad.

While there is much good in last night's healthcare bill, an amendment sponsored by my opponent, Rep. Joe Pitts, is a direct attack on the freedom and privacy of American women.

Now keep in mind: this is the same Pitts who LED the debate of this amendment on the floor .

This is the same Pitts who has actively SPREAD LIES about the bill."

Michael Bloomberg spent $100 million of his own money to become mayor of New York City for a third term.
I bet we could come up with a few things that we could've better spent that money on.

Society does take rape more seriously now than it once did, but it is not because of - as the The Times article suggested - "a family-values revival.'' It is because of feminism.

This week Barbra Streisand released â€oeLove is the Answer,” her first studio album in four years. This new album is a collection of old-timey jazz standards like â€oeSmoke Gets in Your Eyes” produced by Diana Krall, meant to recall Streisandâ€s early days as a club singer. The one small, intimate show she did to promote the album last week at the Village Vanguard is another such throwback, although the ratio of attendees (less than 100 of them) to media coverage (articles everywhere!) surely must have set some sort of record."

From the page: "he High Holy Days provide a fitting backdrop for movie or TV scenes, with their dramatic imagery of white-clad rabbis, well-dressed congregants and the ringing sound of Shofar and prayers. And, of course, the dramatic symbolism of renewal and repentance doesnâ€t hurt either. But despite this, these were the only big scenes I could recall that took place specifically during the Days of Awe (bar mitzvahs, on the other hand, are everywhere in pop culture). Are there any other memorable onscreen references to the High Holidays that weâ€re missing here?"

Little Dorrit: This years best Emmys discovery? | EW.com

From the page: "the cast was one of those sprawling BBC ensembles, featuring memorable performances from actors I'd never seen before (Claire Foy, as debtor;s daughter Amy Dorrit) as well as some familiar faces (Matthew "Mr. Darcy" Macfadyen as earnest hero Arthur Clennam, Andy "Gollum" Serkis as creepy villain Rigaud). And the plot-- all about wealth and class and massive finance-industry malfeasance-- was shockingly relevant in 2009. If you'd like to see a melodramatic TV movie about the Bernie Madoff scandal, you'd probably be better off seeking out Little Dorrit on DVD. It'll be just as much fun, you'll get a long-suffering love story at the same time, and you know the production values will be higher with the BBC in charge."
