Taming the elephant

Some of you have responded to the past week's pages on F.E.A.R., asking what to do about it. The fact is that I have been delaying the answer, while I decide how to present it over the internet. Eliminating f.e.a.r. is a skill, which yogis perfected several thousand years ago but the skill is usually taught in the physical presence of a teacher, so that the teacher can guide the student past the obstacles, which are created by the deluded, fearful mind.

The ancient parables describe this guidance as the process of taming a wild elephant. The procedure in those days was to tie a newly captured animal to a post with a good strong rope. When you do this the elephant is not happy. He screams and tramples, and pulls against the rope for days. Finally, it sinks through his skull that he can't get away, and he settles down. At this point you can begin to feed him and to handle him with some measure of safety. Eventually you can dispense with the rope and post altogether, and train your elephant for various tasks. Now, you've got a tamed elephant that can be put to useful work. In this analogy, the wild elephant is your wildly active mind, the rope is mindfulness, and the post is our object -- breathing. The tamed elephant who emerges from this process is a well trained, concentrated mind that can then be used for the exceedingly tough job of piercing the layers of illusion that obscure reality. Removing illusion eliminates f.e.a.r., by taming the mind.

As you can imagine, taming a wild elephant takes time and daily effort. Of course, in theory, some elephant minds have the possibility to release f.e.a.r., instantly. However, this has not been my experience, as a teacher/tamer. Usually, students do extremely well in class but do not seem to make much progress between classes. I, as the teacher/tamer, must begin with the first lesson, repeatedly. When I ask the students if they have been practicing at home, they usually tell me that though they have every intention of practicing at home, they are afraid.

It can not be much different in cyberspace. I will make the effort to teach the process through these web pages but I want each of you, who decide to do this to contact me, tell me that you want to learn the process and always keep me informed of your obstacles and challenges. You can eliminate fear, anger, worry, anxiety and dread from your life and the first step is to make a commitment.

The next question we need to address is: Why choose breathing as the primary object of the taming process? Why not something a bit more interesting? Answers to this are numerous. A useful object of taming should be one that promotes mindfulness. It should be portable, easily available and cheap. It should also be something that will not embroil us in those states of mind from which we are trying to free ourselves, such as greed, anger and delusion. Breathing satisfies all these criteria and more. Breathing is something common to every human being. We all carry it with us wherever we go. It is always there, constantly available, never ceasing from birth till death, and it costs nothing.

Breathing is a non-conceptual process, a thing that can be experienced directly without a need for thought. Furthermore, it is a very living process, an aspect of life that is in constant change. The breath moves in cycles--inhalation, exhalation, breathing in and breathing out. Thus it is miniature model of life itself.

The sensation of breath is subtle, yet it is quite distinct when you learn to tune into it. It takes a bit of an effort to find it. Yet anybody can do it. You've got to work at it, but not too hard. For all these reasons, breathing makes an ideal object of taming. Breathing is normally an involuntary process, proceeding at its own pace without a conscious will. Yet, a single act of will can slow it down or speed it up. Make it long and smooth or short and choppy. The balance between involuntary breathing and forced manipulation of breath is quite delicate. And there are lessons to be learned here on the nature of will and desire. Then, too, that point at the tip of the nostril can be viewed as a sort of a window between the inner and outer worlds. It is a nexus point and energy-transfer spot where stuff from the outside world moves in and becomes a part of what we call 'me', and where a part of me flows forth to merge with the outside world. There are lessons to be learned here about self- concept and how we form it.

I'll stop here and wait for your commitments.

Cleansing Consequences
The cleansing procedures, which were presented last week, induce substantial changes, physically, mentally, and psychologiacally. They are all very basic procedures and I am reluctant to present more transformative procedures, because I do not know each readers present condition and because change causes stress.

Many people feel that stress is something to be avoided. However, growth causes stress. Stress is a necessary positive force in one's life, if used properly.

For example, there are varied consequences from my use of the intestinal wash. The first thing I noticed is that my breathing became remarkably free and clear. Because I am skilled in pranayama, I am very aware of my breathing, which is generally clear but, after the intestinal wash, the breathing was exceptional. This tells me that I either need to cleanse more frequently, or identify and eliminate the substance, which impairs my breathing.

This morning, while doing my "body scan," a discomfort, bordering on low grade pain, was noticable in my bursa, more so in my right shoulder. This indicates that the liver is not functioning, fully. The liver cleanse is scheduled for next weekend and I'll see what happens.

Generally, I am a "high energy" type. So much so that I constantly need to tone down, when with other people, for their comfort. On Saturday, during and after the intestinal wash, I purposely forced myself to be very gentle to my body and rest. On Sunday, I was a whirlwind of energy. I wrote and posted 150 web pages, for the French side of Etre Soi.ch, in less than three hours. Expending so much mental energy in such a short time is not good for me. I need to reallocate my energy resources and get to a new balance.

Ease your way into using procedures, such as, frontal lobe brain cleanse and the mind cleanse. Try them for two minutes, observe the consequences, balance the stress caused by their changes, and then try them again for a longer period.

Any questions??

A Liver Cleanse

As far as can be determined, the following liver cleanse has been in use for 2500 years. However, there are about as many variations and many people have chosen to monetize this ancient wisdom, by attaching their name or brand to their particular method. I, too, have developed my own variation, based on my use of the liver cleanse, and choose to share. Remember, a healthy liver is absolutely essential to life and your liver produces cholesterol, which is the foundation for the brain's hormone cascade.

Many people call this procedure a gall bladder cleanse, since it also clears the gall bladder of gall stones. It is the job of the liver to make bile, 1 to 1½ quarts in a day! The liver is full of tubes (biliary tubing) that deliver the bile to one large tube (the common bile duct). The gallbladder is attached to the common bile duct and acts as a storage reservoir. Eating fat or protein triggers the gallbladder to squeeze itself empty after about twenty minutes, and the stored bile finishes its trip down the common bile duct to the intestine. The gall bladders function is to send bile through the bile duct to the intestine. Bile is necessary for the digestion of dietary fats. Though the gall bladder and bile duct can become clogged with stones, the stones originate in the liver. In the process of cleansing the liver, the gall bladder and bile duct get flushed clear, also. People, who have foolishly had their gall bladders removed, should consider this liver cleanse, also.

The so-called stones are not actually stones. They are hardened masses of cholesterol, which have formed in the liver and lodge in the liver, gall bladder and bile duct. They vary in color, shape and size depending on their age. The newest stones are a green color, the color of bile; the older stones are brown, red and black. They can vary in size from the size of a grain of sand to an avocado pit. At the very center of each stone is found a clump of bacteria, suggesting that a dead bit of parasite might have started the stone forming. Passing large, odd shaped stones through the bile duct can be quite painful, which is why the gall bladder and bile duct are removed in over one million surgeries per year, following the surgeon's dictum, "When in doubt, cut it out."

To my way of thinking, removing the gall bladder does nothing about the root cause of stones and cripples the victim's digestion for life. Stones of hardened cholesterol can be attributed to two main causes - poor nutrition and liver parasites, plus a combination of the two.

Now, don't start thinking that you can not possibly have internal parasites in your body. According to the World Health Organization, over half the human population of earth is infested with parasites... and the percentage of people with parasites in North America exceeds the percentage of people with parasites in Africa. Why?... dietary habits, again.

There is a simple test to see if you have parasites. The very first thing when you wake up in the morning, before you even get out of bed, spit twice into the glass of water that you left on your nightstand from the night before. Now over the course of the next 15 minutes watch the glass of water. If your spit just kind of dissolves and dissipates in the water, you do not have an infection. If on the other hand it becomes cloudy, with strings, sinks to the bottom, looks like spider webs, you more than likely have some sort of yeast infection. If there is sediment in the bottom of the glass after 30 minutes or so then you have parasites also and will need to deal with them first. It will be very noticeable, so don't worry about being unsure. In many cases, you will be able to tell in the first 5 minutes.

The basic original liver cleanse
Eat only fat-free breakfast the day of cleanse, and then fast.

In the evening:
squeeze juice from 10 lemons
and mix it with 1 cup of olive oil.

Drink it.

Walk all night. Empty bowels into the pot and look for stones.

DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF, IT CAN BE QUITE PAINFUL
A More Pleasant Variation of the Liver Cleanse

If you have been reading my daily thoughts for any length of time, you may have noticed that I am not one of those yogi ascetics. Life has a way of providing enough pain and discomfort. I do not care to add to it. If something is good for me and somewhat pleasurable, I am more likely to do it. CONTINUE HERE

      21-DAYS OF MELON

My wife will attest that I get cranky, when I miss a meal. I don't wear a wrist watch; I know when it is time to eat! I like the 21-DAYS OF MELON cleanse, because I can eat all I want, when I want and never feel hungry.

21-DAYS OF MELON is a great "detox" to do in the Spring. It is designed to cleanse the liver, kidneys, intestines, renew bodily fluids and strip-off fat.

Sticking to the 21-DAYS OF MELON is a bit of a challenge, only from boredom resulting from lack of variety. The physical cleansing is accompanied by a mental cleansing as well. You have to just let the inner cleansing happen.

21-DAYS OF MELON) is a means to rid your body of toxins stored in your fat cells. The first part will clean your digestive organs, so they can efficiently process the waste removed from burning your fat cells. The second part of the 21-DAYS OF MELON opens the stored body fat (burns it) to release the toxins within. It requires discipline and resolve to complete the recommended procedure. The really good news is that you are not hungry on the 21-DAYS OF MELON, just totally bored with the limited selection of food. Eat as much melon as you can, and eat often to keep your brain from falling asleep. Remember, you are eating ONLY the melons listed here for the duration of the 21-DAYS OF MELON, and drink plenty of water too. Note, no coffee or tea either.

The benefits of the 21-DAYS OF MELON are quite amazing, including:

Reduced Body Fat (a pound per day is common)

    Food Cravings Diminish (even chocolate)

Cleans the Liver, Kidneys, and Colon

Gives a New, Healthy Relationship to Food

You Will Naturally Cut-Back on Food Portions

    Curbs the "Food Addiction" Mentality

Healthy Foods Will Be More Appealing to You

21-DAYS OF MELON Procedure: is here.

The most common substances used as drinks, or as additions to juice drinks are blue-green algae, wheatgrass, barley grass, oat grass, spirulina, chlorella, and dulse. In addition, one can add a number of other natural brain tonics, including astralagus, lecithin, beet juice powder, bee pollen, ginko and green tea extracts.

Because of the broad range of ingredients, these products offer a veritable smorgasbord of micronutrients, which are not generally present in most common foodstuffs. And, they are very rich in chlorophyll, which activates the enzymes that produce vitamins E, A, and K. (Interestingly, chlorophyll has almost the same molecular structure as hemoglobin, which carries oxygen throughout the body.) Best of all, you city dwellers can grow your own grasses, in a small tray on your windowsill. These substances are extremely rich in trace minerals, in which many people with cognitive decline are deficient. These trace minerals are the catalysts that enable vitamins and enzymes to perform their various functions.
Total Bull

As a change of pace, for today, I offer, for your amusement, a satirical introduction to one's quest to become a member of a "spiritual community" -
Enjoy!

Gabriel, of North Carolina, has responded with some good information about lecithin: "Thank you Denis for your insights and work! (particularly Krisnamurti and Health!)

"A quick note on lecithin-----the vitamin and enzyme content of seeds and grains, when SPROUTED, increases dramatically, Although wheat has very little Vitamin C in its kernel form, when sprouted this small quantity increases 600% according to Dr. Bailey of the University of Minnesota. Sprouted Oats contain amounts of Vitamin C equal to lime or grapefruit juice and, when allowed to sprout for 10 days, have even more Vitamin C. Soya beans tested after sprouting for a day and half show a Vitamin C increase of over 500%.

"The best sources of lecithin are germinates and sprouts of seeds, whole grains, and legumes, especially soya beans. Lecithin is an emulsifier of fats, breaking them down to small, separate particles, keeping the circulation of fats emulsified to prevent their sedimentation. It also counteracts, neutralizes, and eliminates cholesterol from our circulatory system. Lecithin also maintains adequate tension in the cells by giving a protective lining to the lungs. Sufficient lecithin in the bile will prevent formation of gallstones, which are composed of 85% cholesterol. As lecithin contains large quantities of polyunsaturated oils, it has a cholesterol-dispersing effect, another decided advantage. Adding lecithin to our diet, the undesirable cholesterol derivatives will not form, becoming instead a soluble lecithin-cholesterol compound. Keeping the cholesterol in solution in the bloodstream to dissolve cholesterol deposits in the walls of arteries, atherosclerosis can be prevented."

I will continue with the process of slimming the waistline and improving cognitive function tomorrow.
Today's message is very brief, because I am too immersed in a project, part of which I can share with a download of a cannabis emulation, in the form of a brainwave entrainment. (I have corrected my problems with writing to mp3 format.)

Cannabis products are used in many forms, both recreationally and medically, worldwide. THC, or tetrahydracannibol, the active ingredient is also available by prescripton, in pill form, in a product called Marinol. However, cultivation, sale, possession and, in some circumstances, use of cannabis is illegal in the land of the free.

I have named the brainwave entrainment, linked above, doobie_doo.mp3 because it puts you into a mildly euphoric and pain free state, which is very close to the stae of one who has smoked some cannabis. I am experimenting and refining this program, in the hopes of eliminating the cognitive dissonance, which results from cannabis use, and increasing the pain relief feature for people, who live with chronic pain. ...get the mp3 here
There is no method for self-knowledge. Seeking a method invariably implies the desire to attain some result and that is what we all want. We follow authority - if not that of a person, then of a system, of an ideology because we want a result that will be satisfactory, which will give us security.

We really do not want to understand ourselves, our impulses and reactions, the whole process of our thinking, the conscious, as well as the unconscious; we would rather pursue a system which assures us of a result. But the pursuit of a system is invariably the outcome of our desire for security, for certainty, and the result is obviously not the understanding of oneself. When we follow a method, we must have authorities- the teacher, the guru, the savior, the Master - who will guarantee us what we desire; and surely that is not the way to self-knowledge. Authority prevents the understanding of oneself, does it not? Under the shelter of an authority, a guide, you may have temporarily a sense of security, a sense of well-being, but that is not the understanding of the total process of oneself.

..Authority in its very nature prevents the full awareness of oneself and therefore ultimately destroys freedom; in freedom alone can there be creativeness. There can be creativeness only through self-knowledge.....more Any questions or comments, contact me.
