Jeff Jarvis: The Future of Journalism is an entrepreneurial, collaborative Process - CARTA

Jeff Jarvis lists three central challenges for the media business:

1. The big question for us is: Where is the business future of media?
2. The second problem we have is effectiveness for a whole new range of advertising.
3. The third problem, I think, we have is how to find efficiency. Rather than trying to own and do anything on ourselves, I think that we have to find ways to work collaboratively, so we can work more efficient.

Interesting, that he talks a lot about 1. und 3., but regarding advertising he just mentions one time:
"But is a targeted, efficient, effective, and profitable business."

This transcript of the keynote contains the video of his speech (via Skype).

"People were very dependent on email. They overused it" or replacing the in-box with "a river that continues to flow as you dip into it" are two quotes from this article.

The author Mrs. Vascellaro arguments why the reign of email is over.

A good analysis of the state of electronic communication in 2009.

A must read article about the rivalry between Google and Facebook.

This story contains many interesting facts, some of them:
1. about Facebook (40.000 servers, 850 million photos...)
2. how Google is doing everything to get brand advertisers (search is a failure for that)
3. why behavioral targeting is the key to success for Facebook ("the company's future depends on its ability to master the art of behavioral targeting--selling customized advertising based on user profiles")
