What a Colossal Waste!

The economy is in shambles. The pundits say we are going through one of the worst recessions since The Great Depression. Hordes and hordes of people are getting laid off everyday. Companies like Circuit City and Linen'n Things have already gone out of business. Next year some big names like Chrysler and Blockbuster might not be doing business at all. Many people are shedding off their luxurious life styles and looking for cheap ways to live. Coupon sites are sprawling all over the Internet. But, a few people like the girl below still want to stick to their lavish lifestyle. Every time I see the picture, I cringe with utter disbelief and sheer disgust. What is wrong with this girl? Why on earth is she still wearing her clothes on while rewarding herself with an outrageous, bubblicious (is that a word?) bath. I don't understand. Do you?

Looking ahead in the new year!

What a year 2007 was! So many things happened so fast. That was the year, I stumbled upon StumbleUpon and made some great friends. That was also the year, blogging really took off. Some social networks ( Squidoo, Hubpages and so on) were kind enough to share their Google Adsense wealth with their members. I would say 2007 will be remembered as the year of mortgage meltdown. Many people's lives have turned completely upside down. See what happened to Evelyn, the girl below and share her pain with you.

A Shattered American Dream

Wide eyed, ambitious, and ready to live my American dream,
Stepped out of college to pursue that coveted bank career.
Moved up the corporate ladder swiftly as the top of cream.
Just to have a peek at my smile, cars would gladly over steer.

One day, I bumped into this hunk, literally at the mall.
I had a nasty swell on my forehead and I was in tears.
He invited me for a hot Cappuccino and offered to call.
I knew I was smitten by his good looks and cute rears.

Sparks flew! To make the long story short, we tied the knot soon.
Moved into this 5-bedroom 4-bath pool house with my soul mate.
Wearing only our smiles, we would swim for hours on a full moon.

I can't believe Thanksgiving Day is already upon us. Seems like I just had my spring break vacation on the beautiful mountains of Grand Canyon. Thanksgiving also heralds the fun filled weeks of activities ahead culminating in New Year's celebrations. What an excuse to stumble officially at the work place without anyone "bothering" us. This is a great day for all our families get together to share and reminisce all the things happened lately. The women usually gather in the kitchen, trying to squeeze months and months of conversations in a few hours, cleverly sending their men away to watch football. The men obediently go away and spend a few hours yelling and screaming at the little screen while coming back occasionally to gulp on roast turkey and pumpkin pies. It is a purely American ritual that we perform every year and crave for. Have a wonderful time with your families and give thanks to all those that made our lives worth living for.

I am not too much into political jokes. One of my friends sent me this through email. I thought it is too hilarious and close to reality to pass it up. Have a good laugh at it.
We know the current political situation in Pakistan. Martial law is in effect for the past few weeks. That means, citizens are blocked from getting information, justice, attorney services and basically lose their freedom of speech, basic rights and so on. The government sensors every outlet of information and feeds the people its own propaganda messages. Sounds familiar? U.S has advised Pakistan to remove the emergency rule as soon as possible. Do you know why?

The Last Living Survivor of the Titanic There is some magic in Titanic. Every time I read or hear about it, I learn something new. I came across this menu that was offered to the First class passengers on the fatal night. It was a ten course meal.A feast worthy of a king's. It is a shame, it crashed on its debut. 1512 people survived. Can you guess how many survivors still live? Just one. Yep! Just a few weeks ago one of the survivors Barbara West died leaving Millvina Dean (see picture)as the only living survivor. That must be something special. Now, she can be considered a historic monument. The preparations for the centenary celebration of the Titanic's maiden voyage are underway and will start on April 12, 2012. If Millvina makes it to the day, she will be 100 years old. I think she can still do it. Wish her health and good luck.

A tale of how a tiny gadget ruined a girl's day

Cellphone addiction is getting out of control these days. You just can not walk into a quiet place like a library, class room, church or office meeting without someone talking on their cellphone. Recently, the presidential candidate Rudy Guiliani, even took a call from his wife during a press meeting. Outrageous! In the true spirit of Halloween, let us see how this little gadget successfully ruined a perfect Saturday afternoon. Lisa and Simone are two best friends. They went out to do some shopping for Halloween costumes. Lisa bought a crimson colored bunny suit and Simone got her Scarecrow costume. On the way back home, the girls just wanted to check out the new arrivals in this upscale boutique. Little did they know what was awaiting them in the store. While Simone was trying out this purple gown, her cellphone rang with that annoying ringtone. In her hurry to get to the phone, she managed to tangle up the hooks. She couldn't exactly remember where she put the phone down. At this time, she started panicking and tangled up the hooks some more. See how Lisa is trying to calm her down. Simone was afraid that the store manager will sneak in and give her a dirty look. Somehow, she managed to untangle the hooks and answered the phone on time. By this time, tears started rolling down her cheeks and she looked like a ghost of herself. She never thought she would be victimized by her own stupid cell phone. Poor girl!

Moral of the story. 1. When you go shopping, put your cellphone in a "vibrate" mode.
2. For Pete's sake, get rid of those annoying ringtones.
3. Always go with a friend, who can bail you out with a calm demeanor.

Great artists are idolized almost throughout the world. Some of them have to go through many hardships and disappointments before reaching the pinnacle of success. Once they are up there, then people are willing to spend a fortune to collect their arts and wait in line to take a picture with them and get their autographs. Unfortunately, some talented artists never make it to the mainstream. The best example will be the folk dancers and street artists whose talents are appreciated only by a handful of locals. I stumbled upon this incredible art by these Russian street artists (right here). Armed just with a box of chalks and rags, they create some of the stunning artworks right on the street.

The car looks so real that an unsuspecting pedestrian would have never thought this is just a painting.

Meet the Picassos and Da Vincis of the street who brought this painting to life. What exactly keeps them going? Is it the love for the art? Do they really make a living doing this? I am not sure but my hats off to these unsung heroes.
