While I'm not much active there again yet, I'll likely be doing my blogging at my old site:
http://earlsblogcominghome.blogspot.com/

At least, they haven't ruined it as SU has.

But I will visit my old friends here at SU yet.

Since the new disaster at SU, I've not been active here. It's been a very busy time for me, and then trying to make sense out of the mayhem the new corporate mentality has imposed is more than I want to battle.

I liked the 'old' format: Good oversight, organization, a decent 'front page' and more. No longer. Now it's a maze without any personal character.

So I've not done anything here. I value the friends I've met, and whose pages and insights I like. But SU has pretty much thrown that concept away for me.

Were it not for the people I value, I would have been long gone. And may still leave. I've voted with my feet before, and this may be another, smaller, instance.

I will not renew my paid membership here, in any case.

Belief

When the local church found out their small town was going to get a new tavern, they started a petition campaign and regular prayers to block the bar from opening. Work progressed uneventfully until the night before the bar was set to open, when a huge storm blew through and a lightning bolt struck the bar and it burned to the ground.

The church folks were quite "smug" until the bar owner sued them on the grounds that they were responsible for his building's demise, either through direct or indirect actions or means.

In court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.

As the case concluded, the judge looked over the paperwork and commented, "I'm not sure how I'm going to decide this, but it appears from the paperwork that we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer and an entire church congregation that doesn't!"

A picture history of where my great grandfather Willem 1850-1924 lived.

Willem was born in this house in 1850 in Heino, the Netherlands; a house that his grandfather Hendrikus 1757-1831 built in 1802, and his father, also Willem (1808-1891)later enlarged with his much larger family. The house and grounds are, no doubt, much more attractive today than earlier.

When Willem married in 1875, he moved to this house in Hilversum, where he worked as a carpenter. Photo is from the 1960s.

Nine years later, Willem moved east to Lonneker/Enschede, where he opened his store; likely a grocery. This photo is from ca. 1895-1900.

In 1914, at 64 years of age, he emigrated to the Michigan in the U.S.; the textile based economy was bad in Enschede and WW1 was breaking out. They lived very close to the German border.

Upon immigrating, Willem and his wife and one daughter moved into this house with their married daughter and son-in-law in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They also had 3 boarders living with them.

Immigrating as an older adult often means hardship;and this series of photos is evidence of this. Willem worked in a furniture factory in Grand Rapids in a low level position until after he was 70 years old and died a poor man compared to his life earlier.

For some, perhaps many, immigration is more a matter of survival rather than improvement. I also know a bit; I emigrated back to the Netherlands when I was 48. After 20 years, it still appears to be the right choice, but it wasn't easy.

"You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.

Now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour.

And there are things to be considered:

Where are you living? What are you doing?

What are your relationships? Are you in right relation?

Where is your water? Know your garden.

It is time to speak your Truth.

Create your community.

Be good to each other.

And do not look outside yourself for the leader.

This could be a good time!

There is a river flowing now very fast.

It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.

They will try to hold on to the shore.

They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination.

The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river.

Keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.

See who is in there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally.

Least of all, ourselves.

For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.

The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves!

Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.

All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

We are the ones we've been waiting for."
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!
"There is no free lunch for the creature comforts delivered by the corporation. The ravaging of nature, the erosion of economic security, the destabilization of the family, the commercialization of all human relationships, the corruption of democracy, and the dissipation of spiritual meaning in the face of rampant materialism - these are all part of the cost of the corporate system as we know it. And they add up to a very high price to pay for the bounty of the great American shopping mall."-- Charles Derber, Corporation Nation
