From the page: "They viewed radical Islamic fundamentalism as resulting in part from the corrupt dictatorial regimes that inhabit the Middle East, which have effectively repressed indigenous democratic reformers. Although opposed to nation building generally, these libertarians believed that a strategy of fomenting democratic regimes in the Middle East, as was done in Germany and Japan after World War II, might well be the best way to take the fight to the enemy rather than solely trying to ward off the next attack. "

With this argument, a "libertarian" could justify drug prohibition or any other social engineering program based on speculative social theories.

Good overview. I agree that BNW is more similar to modern America than 1984 is, but we still see people using the strategy from 1984 (in Iran, for instance). Also, the two strategies can be combined, after all, even BNW was built on a foundation of violence (remember that the "simple life" movement was forcibly dissipated). Probably the main determinant of which strategy is followed is the amount of wealth in a society (rich societies follow BNW, poor societies follow 1984)

Sadly, An Honest Creationist

A good description of a sincere creationist as a person who has rejected science. However, I find Dawkin's arrogant, dogmatic scientism (i.e. the idea that scientific theory is The Truth) to be a bit of a turnoff. Dawkins assumes (without argument) that The Truth is knowable, and that science is the way to do it, while his essay illustrates that each person has their own preferred method of thinking about the world, and ultimately it depends on how they choose to live their life.
