Information Concerning Filing of Trademark Application in UAE

Applications should be printed on normal A4 paper within & card board file

* Required documents from Individuals and Sole proprietorship incorporation

1. Application for registration of Trademark (Form No. 1)
2. 14 prints of the trademark, the size should be (5x6) cm or (6X7) cm, in self adhesive paper. The 14 prints should be kept inside a small envelope. One trademark print should be fixed on the Application Form No. 1. Another trademark print should be fixed on the outer side of the card board file.
3. Official Arabic translation if the trademark is a word mark which is in Foreign Language (any language other than Arabic). The translation of any certified translation office will be accepted. Mere copy from the dictionary will be accepted if the Dictionary contains Arabic translation.
4. Copy of the License (Trade-Professional-Services) and a copy of the passport of the owner of the sole proprietorship corporation. If the applicant is individual a copy of the passport of the U.A.E. national will be sufficient
5. CD containing the logo of size (4x4) cm & (315 x 315) Pixel "JPG "&the form.

* Filing requirements for local companies

* Clauses (4, 3, 2, 5) above in addition

* Copy of the memorandum and Article of Association or official certificate showing names of the share holders.

* For foreign companies (registered abroad) or the companies registered in Free Zones within U.A.E

* Clauses (1, 2, 3) above in addition

* The application should be filed by a law office or a licensed Trademark Agent,

* Copy of the Power of Attorney issued to the Law office or the Trademark Agent, legalized up to UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A certified Arabic translation should also be submitted for the Power of Attorney.

* Copy of the License of the Law office or the trademark agent.

* Advertisement of the acceptance in two Local Arabic news papers (to be made directly by the applicant after acceptance)

* There is 30 days period for filing an opposition by any interested party. In absence of an opposition, the published trademark is registered, and the certificate of registration is issued.

* Registration Validity: 10 years, renewable for other consecutive periods, each of which is 10 years.

* Renewal Time: Application for Renewal should be submitted during the last year of the protection period. There is 3 months grace-period for late renewal upon payment of lateness fine. (Renewal is to be published in the Trademark Journal and in two local Arabic newspapers).
