Ok.

So I live within 2 blocks of what is probably the world's largest homeless shelter. Every day, when I walk out, its "got any spare change," ya de dah.

Last Sunday, I had some things I wanted at CVS Drug store, which is 3 blocks from my work.

As I walked around the corner, I heard a homeless type yell something at me.

I was thru the door when I processed what I had heard and I came back out and asked "What?"

What I heard was "buy me a yogurt."

He said "would you please buy me a yogert."

Jeez

I looked at him and said, "for sure."

Maybe he knew I like yogurt but I rather think he wanted nourishment to live -- I'll go that.

I bought a selection of yogurts and dropped a $5 bill and gave it to him.

What ever.

PS:

I am editing this on May 26, 2009.

The man who created what we know in the US as Dannon yogurt's obit is in the Washington Post. He died at 103.

There are so many things I want to write but so little time just now. Thank God, if you believe in God, Obama was elected. He is our hope.

Enough said. The reason I am writing now is to say how absolutely shitty Comcast's digital cable is.

I have worked professionally in television for over 40 years. I have never ever seen a tuner that takes up to 5 seconds to render a picture, and when it finally does, it is shitty.

The business of aviation and the FAA are two of my favorite issues. Prior to 9/11 I had thoughts of starting an airline and had conversations with Airbus who were willing to make a deal that included financing the purchase and significant operating costs of a start up.

My plan was an all smoking airline running NY to LA. Several have attempted it but none have had the kind of equipment or operating cash to make it a reality. But I digress.

Today's Washington Post features "Groundings Prompt FAA Safety Overhaul"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/18/AR2008041803196.html?referrer=emailarticle

( I hope that link works)

Anyway there is much a do about American grounding 300 planes to do repairs. This ordeal started with a whistle blower revealing that Southwest had not done required inspections. In fact someone at the FAA had given Southwest a "pass."

First let me point out that both of these airlines are based in Texas.

Interesting at the time that Southwest was allowed to skip inspections, the Administrator was Marion Blakey, who is from, what a coincidence -- Texas.

A best friend of the Bushes, she was at Transportation under the senior's regime -- which is were I met and did some work for her.

Ms Blakey is ever the political loyalist to put it politely.

So back to the grounded planes. The Post say that American claims to have lost millions.

This is naive. Lets track the money.

When the planes get grounded for "mechanical" issues there are no give aways like over booking. The planes that were grounded were probably booked to about 70% capacity, which is nominally the point where profitable.

If you ground them, fix them at your leisure, and don't suffer penalties, you batch the customers by stranding them. This yields 100% full planes which results in a significant profit.

Not a bad idea from a business point of view. There is a history of this.

Eastern Airline used to do this daily out of Laguardia to Miami. They had flights scheduled every 2 hours or so. They would be half full. The pilots where encouraged to find a mechanical reason to not fly until the plane was full. They were L-1011's so it wasn't difficult to find something wrong. Eastern then ran 100% full planes, saved the wear and tear and the gas. Not bad if you can get away with it and they did for years.

So when you read about American, Southwest, and the FAA please consider what I've written.

Dennis

I can't take it any longer, the issue is Drivers licenses for "illegal Immigrants."

For the past week Ms Clinton has been beat up about it as has the Governor of NY and few have come to the defense of the issue.

Drivers License. Exactly what is that?

The idea is that a person who operates a motor vehicle has to demonstrate knowledge of the laws, like stop at stop signs, use turn signals when you turn, obey speed limits, and who has the right-of-way in various situations. The Licensed Driver must also demonstrate that they understand their responsibility for some technical performance of things such as turn signals that work as well as brake lights and that tires have tread.

One part of the license is to identify an address where someone could be contacted following an accident or if a ticket is issued and other administrative issues such as license renewal.

A Drivers License is a Driver's License.

Let me stop right here and ask, don't you want to know that the people who are on the highways around you have this?

Now here is the problem.

A lot of people have decided to use the Drivers License for things other than driving.

Banks allow you to open accounts, makes sense as the address is supposed to be good.

Identification to buy airplane tickets? I thought the whole federal system was that we didn't have to go through an entry gate to move between states, people and commerce are supposed to move freely within the United States.

WHY on Earth did someone decide that the Drivers License connoted citizenship?

I will add to this soon but this has gotten it off my chest.

Perhaps we shouldn't allow "Illegal Immigrants" to use our libraries as they issue cards too.

Ok so I've been watching the unfolding scandal at Oral Robert University.

This is where founder's son, wife, and daughter are accused of misappropriation of funds.

Young Robert's says something on camera like "anyone can file a lawsuit because this is a "licious" society."

As the head of a University, you would think he would know the term "Litigious."

Which brings me to my point.

I have never been much of a fan of the Catholic or any other church or religion.

I do like the music, wine, and crackers.

Following the Oral Robert's event, I have gained new respect for Catholicism.

As we can see, if you allow religious leaders to breed, they breed down.
