So far this week we've had a 5.4 earthquake, a Hurricane (named Flossie!), and a HUGE wildfire in this lovely island state of Hawaii. I'm sticking around for now, but if Godzilla or the Sta-Puff Marshmallow Man show up I'm gone...

I threw a new avatar picture up. It's a picture of my old fire station. We've moved since then - into a huge boxy concrete station. Even though the only thing holding the old station up was the asbestos and the termites holding hands...I'll miss it. Over a hundred years of firefighting history. No more lychees and mangoes fresh off the tree. No more Oscar the friendly ghost. No more Tahitian Lanai. Farewell Old Station #15!

I've been a Fireman now for just over 5 years. Before that I was a Lifeguard. I did that for 7 years. One day, up in the Lifeguard tower, right after watching someone do something really, REALLY stupid I came up with a theory. I call it my "Cave Bear Theory". It goes like this: Back in the caveman days you had to be fast, smart, or very lucky to survive to pass on your genes. If you were slow, dumb, or unlucky the Cave Bear ate you. I'm just saying...
