Definitely the best blog for Shanghai. It gives you extra info that you couldn't find anywhere else - eg why the visa situation sucks so bad in China right now. For every upcoming live show or food review, it gives you the exact address and opening and closing times and phone numbers (of the restaurant/venue). Great stuff.

A lot of flash animation but I found the content a bit empty. I think the best way is to study from Chinese movies.

I found a site mochinamochina.com and it has chinese, pinyin, and english subtitles. I haven't found any other site that offers this yet (for free, i mean).

One of the better sites for learning chinese. However, I like to learn chinese from movies and dvds.

I recently found a site to do that called mochinamochina.com.

It has chinese, pinyin, and english subtitles. I like to write down the characters that I don't know as I go through the movie.

The cool thing about this site is that the annotation algorithm for site is being constantly updated. Which means that the translations (annotations) are getting better all the time. The only drawback is that you have to cut and paste the chinese onto this site in order to see the annotation. I prefer instant annotation tools, such as hanzibar and chinup (firefox plugins). These are especially good when you just need to mouse-over a single word you don't know.

However, adsotrans is definitely more accurate when you need to cut and paste full sentences/paragraphs. Adsotrans can also be used in your own website - like you see in http://adsotrans.com/newsinchinese/ - as long as you give credit to the guy).

One of the better online chinese-english dictionary and annotation tools. Annotation means that it shows you the pinyin and english when you mouse-over a Chinese character. It's really useful when you don't have a dictionary to look up the characters by stroke. For example if someone give you a sms message with a word that contains two characters and you only know ONE of them, you can find the other character using this website because it shows all the words with ANY given character. Hope that makes sense ;)

Definitely the best chinese-english dictionary online. It's particularly useful in that you can search Chinese AND English PHRASES. It doesn't have pinyin, but just install something like chinup (free) or hanzibar (about 10USD) - these are firefox mouse-over annotation plugins that will show you the pinyin/english when you put your mouse over the Chinese characters.

This is a good mouse-over annotation tool for Chinese. In other works, if you put your mouse over a chinese character , it will show the the pinyin and english translation. Very, very useful. However, I prefer hanzibar - not as many bugs, but about 10USD.
