The biggest transition this year is Pluto moving into Capricorn on January 25 for the first time in 247 years. People born December 20 through 23 will have Pluto cross their Suns this year, and their lives will not be the same. But slowly, as Pluto winds its way through two or three degrees per year, each and every Capricorn will have their world turned upside down — until March 2023, when Pluto leaves that sign and goes into Aquarius.

Pluto, likened to volcanic activity, brings situations to a crisis. What has been hidden is asking to be transformed, transfigured, reshaped, and revised from the inside out. Capricorn symbolizes structures, business, government, and all that we rely upon for stability. Much has been written about this combination in terms of upheaval in power centers and financial markets, and it will surely be a memorable year in those areas.

With such a daunting picture on the world stage, in the age-old manner of propitiating the gods, I’d like to consider a more personal view. Perhaps, as Pluto moves into Capricorn, we as a collective are entering a new field of chaos or, in some way, a different experiment with chaos (Pluto), whereby as individuals our integrity, sincerity, and sense of responsibility — all qualities of Capricorn — become exquisitely tuned instruments that help us to keep our perspective in challenging situations. Pluto in Capricorn suggests an overarching awareness of the critical (Pluto) nature of the time (Capricorn) and our own relationship to power. Power may mean our capacity to act. The language of astrology can sound quite dramatic, so it is helpful to remember that life unfolding is an organic process — ultimately, Pluto will serve to remove structures that are entirely ready to be removed. Pluto rules death, and something dies so that something new can be reborn.

Perhaps, with Pluto in Capricorn, we’ll all have a view from the top of a mountain and can get a glimpse of what real power and authority look like. As I wrote last year at the end of my 2007 forecast, “The root hum (contained in ‘human’ and ‘humble’) is derived from the Latin humilis, meaning ‘low’ (from humus, earth), which is etymologically akin to the Greek chthon, meaning ‘earth,’ and chamai, meaning ‘ground.’”[5] This year’s planetary emphasis on the earth element may give us a chance to transform our inner order and understanding of power, and our quiet or discreet actions may make more of an impact than we realize.

Pluto moves into Capricorn on January 25, stations retrograde on April 2 at 1º09’, and goes back into Sagittarius on June 13. Pluto then stations direct on September 8 at 28º30’ Sagittarius and then re-enters Capricorn on November 26.
http://www.mountainastrologer.com/planet_tracks/pt_archive/forecast2008/forecast08.html
Poll Shows Strong Support in Mexico for Drug Legalization
Posted in Chronicle Blog by Scott Morgan on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 9:34pm

A BBC World Service poll released Monday found Mexicans evenly divided on the question of whether drug legalization should be considered as a solution to the nation’s problem with drug war violence. 44% of respondents agreed that legalization of drugs should be considered, while 46% disagreed. Additionally, a full 80% believed that "the government should consider seeking other alternatives to end the problem."

These results reflect widespread frustration with the increased drug trade violence triggered by President Calderon’s efforts at cracking down on traffickers. Police are being killed at alarming rates, with some even fleeing to the U.S. in search of asylum. Civilians are being massacred in shootings by police and grenade attacks by drug traffickers. Bloody botched police raids and gratuitous human rights violations by the Mexican army have terrorized the population. Affluent Mexicans are having microchips implanted in their flesh in case of kidnappings and the traffickers are driving modified James Bond-style getaway vehicles.

These are the inevitable consequences of a brutal civil war that continues to enrich powerful drug lords at the perpetual expense of peace and social order. Anyone living on the front lines of Mexico’s expansive drug war battlefield can plainly observe the contributions of Calderon’s crackdown towards increasing the bloodshed. Things didn’t get better, they got worse. That’s how this works, always.

Calderon’s drug war troop surge has now elevated the lessons of prohibition within the public consciousness. He has created an interactive national exhibit of the drug war’s horrific futility. And each passing day brings more news of destruction and death, more opportunities for the drug war faithful to finally reject the great hoax that has infected their democracy and now consumes their environment.

The drug war is not going to start working one day, so it’s no surprise that Mexicans are ready to begin discussing alternatives. Their numbers will only continue to grow. And you can bet that this conversation scares the great drug lords far more than Calderon’s corrupted drug war army ever will.

World Ideologies As Explained By Reference To Cows

FEUDALISM
You have two cows. Your lord takes some of the milk.

PURE SOCIALISM
You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you a glass of milk.

BUREAUCRATIC SOCIALISM
Your cows are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and eggs as the regulations say you should need.

FASCISM
You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.

PURE COMMUNISM
You share two cows with your neighbors. You and your neighbors bicker about who has the most "ability" and who has the most "need". Meanwhile, no one works, no one gets any milk, and the cows drop dead of starvation.

RUSSIAN COMMUNISM
You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk. You steal back as much milk as you can and sell it on the black market.

PERESTROIKA
You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the Mafia takes all the milk. You steal back as much milk as you can and sell it on the "free" market.

CAMBODIAN COMMUNISM
You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.

DICTATORSHIP
You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.

PURE DEMOCRACY
You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk.

REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY
You have two cows. Your neighbors pick someone to tell you who gets the milk.

BUREAUCRACY
You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. Then it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pours the milk down the drain. Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows.

CAPITALISM
You don't have any cows. The bank will not lend you money to buy cows, because you don't have any cows to put up as collateral.

PURE ANARCHY
You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbors try to take the cows and kill you.

ANARCHO-CAPITALISM
You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

SURREALISM
You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.

OLYMPICS-ISM
You have two cows, one American, one Chinese. With the help of trilling violins and state-of-the-art montage photography, John Tesh narrates the moving tale of how the American cow overcame the agony of growing up in a suburb with (gasp) divorced parents, then mentions in passing that the Chinese cow was beaten every day by a tyrannical farmer and watched its parents butchered before its eyes. The American cow wins the competition, severely spraining an udder in a gritty performance, and gets a multi-million dollar contract to endorse Wheaties. The Chinese cow is led out of the arena and shot by Chinese government officials, though no one ever hears about it. McDonald's buys the meat and serves it hot and fast at its Beijing restaurant.
