I'm typing this while reclining in bed with my cat resting on my chest. She's not as social or intellectually complex as a chimp by any means, but she's every bit capable of having "higher emotions" (especially when she hears a can of food being opened).

It's no secret (at least to the ordinary observer ~ perhaps to some arrogant scientists, maybe) that animals possess much more emotion and understanding than we give them credit for. Animals grieve all the time for lost loved ones. I'm surprised this is even considered "news." Are we really that stupid as a species ourselves that we find this to be some kind of surprising concept despite millenia of witnessing animals' complex social behaviors?

DEAD ON. Makes me kinda glad I've not been around so much to miss all the whining about the latest version. Unlike Facebook, which is steadily going farther down the path of its own interests and not those of its users, at least SU is trying to do something to respond to feedback and appease us old-schoolers who were here "before" and know what it was like before all the new users came. You can't miss what you never had, but many of those of us who did have it DO miss it.
