Time can play cruel tricks on a person.I remember this day, 20 years ago, when the Berlin Wall finally came down.
I also remember Easter weekend 1974, when I, and three friends, crossed from West to East thru Checkpoint Charlie, not exactly knowing if we'd be able to return or not; such was the intrigue, mystique and romance of Berlin during the Cold War years.
Of course, it wasn't very 'romantic' for the hundred's of thousand's of poor souls, who just happened to be on the 'wrong side' of town, the night in 1961 when the Wall went up, dividing families and loved ones for almost 30 years....!

Back on the trail of 'old haunts',this is a pub called the Punch Bowl,and sits right next door to St.Helens church in the village of Sefton,Merseyside.

Again, this pub holds so many fond memories for me.
As a child I would play in the graveyard,next to the pub.And it's only now, some 45 years later, that I finally know the name of the church.....LOL!!!!
Behind the church was an old flour mill, but I don't know if it's still there.
Along the front of the church,turning left as you exit,there used to be a 'sweet shop'.....we'd sit on the wall outside and chomp our candy bars.....!

In keeping with the 'spirit' of Halloween,I'm going to endeavour to re-trace some of my 'old haunts', commonly known in England as 'pubs'.
We're going to start right here with the 'Scarisbrick Arms',which sits on the Leeds - Liverpool canal in Downholland, Lancashire, England.

Firstly, I was saddened to read that the pub had closed down, but is due to re-open....YAY!!! When, I do not know.

This 'haunt' holds many memories for me;It was here that I had a 'pint' with former Everton team captian, Mike Lyons,after Everton had just beaten Liverpool,which didn't happen very often......LOL!!!!

I want to thank my good friend PMJ,and Google Maps,for setting me off on this road of 're-discovery',and we'll see what else springs up......
