So I went to church with the wife and kids today. To be clear, I am an atheist but my wife was raised in a Christian family and she feels compelled to take the kids to church on Sundays. I go for support. I also pride myself as being open-minded and so I do listen and absorb. I actually agree with 90% of the principals expressed. Its all the fluff I have a problem with.

I tend to look around and wonder what other people are really thinking and praying for. Do they really have faith inside?

Today was different because I started thinking what would it take for me to believe. If this "God" is "all-powerful", then it makes sense to pray for something that is worthy of such power. Then a thought popped into my head; what this world really needs is a "global unified moment of clarity."

So I tried it as an experiment - I actually prayed for a "global unified global moment of clarity". I put myself in Christian shoes and prayed to God. For a moment, I had faith. I said the phrase over and over again in my head - this is what I want from God. Yes, I thought, that is the answer. I mean that is the most worthy thing I can think of to pray for. If there is a God, then he/she can do this. After all, we aren't going to do it on our own it seems.

After I came down from my prayer/thought I looked around and nothing had changed. Does this prove God one way or another? No not by itself. However if there is an omniscient, all-powerful God and my prayer was heard by God and that God knows that I (and perhaps everyone) would believe if a unified global moment of clarity was reached by all humans on this planet, it seems like a waste to answer Joe Six-pack's prayer for a new truck.

Please send me your thoughts on this.

I have this to say about the whole Sarah Palin thing:

Regardless of her gender or personal family issues, its the national policy issues that lead me to my conclusion that Obama/Biden as the best choice. Not race, not sex, but the issues that really matter to the USA. If Hilary were to be nominated, I'd vote for her. Here are the issues I care about (not in any particular order):

The War

The Economy

Civil Rights (including a woman's right to choose)

Freedom and the American Way

Its quite simple to me, because of the candidates' positions on these issues, Obama/Biden is my choice.

That said, If Chelsey Clinton was pregnant out of wedlock, you bet your ass the Repuplican's would be all over it like flies on poop; putting her down and pounding their puritanical chests. Meanwhile, Obama says very clearly that family business is off limits.�

I have heard more from the Republican side about Sarah Palin's family issues than from the Democratic side. The Democrats haven't used her personal issues for political gain. Instead Obama and team continue to focus on national policy issues. Its the Republicans that have used Palin for political gain instead of choosing somebody who is good for the country.

I took advice from xineann's how to be a fan whore and changed my avatar.

Some folks say I look like Brad, but my wife doesn't see it unless i cover my eyes with aviator glasses.

My 13-year-old son says "you're not "Brad Pitt - your Bad Pitt" haha.

Anyway i know my posts are very political, left-wing etc. but I have some very strong feelings about the direction my country is headed right now and its hard for me not to post these issues.
