Idea: FlameWar.com -- It's set up like Facebook or SU or some other social networking site, but in such a way as to encourage flame wars. You can't remove bad reviews. You are alerted when someone has given a bad review to a friend, so you can flame them. You can report friendly reviews and get the poster banned.

Alternate name: TrollBook.com

My question is: when did being elite become a bad thing? Wasn't there a time when America prided itself on being elite? It's all part of the Republican'ts plan to turn us in to sniveling slaves of their war and oil machine.

Uncle B sez: "If the U.S. had chosen to be a moral people, and leaving Iraqi oil alone, and following Al Gore, decided to develop the South Western deserts, with the technology of the times - solar/thermal-molten sodium - electricity installations, for the same amount of money as that war cost, ($650 Billion), today, we would be tapping into the largest, renewable, sustainable, energy source the world has ever known. It would have paid every energy bill in the U.S.A. for maintenance fees only - FOREVER! It would be equivalent to an oil field that can NEVER run dry! Low cost electric power, and storeable hydrogen gasoline replacement from the electricity, for all!
After the millions of murders, and $650 billions of dollars, borrowed from our children's futures and pissed away, with thousands of our own and others maimed and disfigured for life, millions of families utterly destroyed, ours and theirs, we are no closer to Iraqi oil production than the Iraqis are!
The next time you hear a blithering idiot spoiled brat, drunken, drug addicted, sociopath, rich Arabic saber dancing daddie's boy oilman, stand at a microphone and threaten YOUR safety with someone ELSE'S weapons, remember what you lost America, remember, and weep! (also see t:4afa0766f39b5;src:syndicate" rel="nofollow" target="_new">http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=a-solar-grand-plan)"

A few months ago, I did a naughty little experiment. I posted reviews to about a dozen people's SU blogs, my review consisting of an exact quote of their own churlish negative review of another page. Most of them failed to even recognize their own nasty, bitter words, and called me a troll. Call it my "Troll Experiment". The latest results can be seen on my review page -- the scintillating "Ozkr" even called me an asshole. He also said, "Wha?" indicating that he doesn't even recognize his own words, which means to me he didn't give them much thought in the first place.

I sent him the following love note:
"I hope your anus turns inside out so that it's a huge anus-balloon that hangs out of your pants leg."

Okay, okay, I should have said "rectum" or "colon". The anus is only a lowly sphincter.

So, I did something naughty. I found all the people who had posted thumbs-down reviews of some silly picture, and reviewed their SU blog with the exact words of their own review of said silly picture. I wanted to meet churlishness with churlishness.

I'm waiting to see how many of them recognize their own words. So far, 0 for 2. My review page will soon be filled with thumbs downs, I'm sure.

I'm doing seventy in the second slowest lane. Someone's on my ass, bright yellow headlights ten feet behind me. This irritates me these days. I take my foot off the gas. Sixty-five, sixty, fifty-five. The idiot still doesn't pass me. Fifty. I'm ready to kill. Finally they pull to the right, passing me on the wrong side. I give them the finger. Twenty seconds later, they're stuck behind a line of cars and I'm passing them...doing seventy again. I honk. I'd like to make a bigger point of it, but the truth is they're probably too dumb to realize what I'd be making a point of. Totally unaware, you know? I'd seem to be flying off the handle at nothing.

Ever since my car got totaled pulling into my own driveway, I've been a little psycho about people tailgating me. Yes, I know, to most people it probably seems nuts. But when you've almost died, things take on a different significance. Listen to me, kiddies: this is how accidents happen. They're not accidents. You drive too close to people, you don't pay attention. This isn't bumper cars, this is the fucking jungle. Get real. Drive safe.

" "'My personal taste is usually not a valid reason to review something as bad.' Uhh... yes, it is. What other reason would you have?" Considering I already clearly stated in the review you're quoting what other reasons there would be (content is genuinely bad, inaccurate, harmful, idiotic, etc., instead of merely not being my cup of tea), I don't see why you're asking a question I already answered. " - the aptly named TurboFool

Yes, but who determines what is "genuinely bad" or "idiotic"? There are no objective measures of those. True, inaccuracy or harmfulness could be objectively measured, but those metrics are of limited value when applied to art. So all of your supposedly impersonal ways of evaluating stumbles are ultimately subjective -- in other words, personal taste. At least be honest about your opinions, rather than trying to cloak them in bogus objectivity. Besides, who ever laid down the law that personal taste is invalid as a consideration of content? Where are we, planet Vulcan?

Stumbleupon is designed to learn your personal tastes, and then show you content that matches. So your Mr. Spock pose is not only baloney, but misplaced.

By the way, my personal taste is that you have a ludicrous haircut for someone who takes himself so seriously.
