To say that I haven't been a Netflix member since the very beginning would be splitting hairs really. There were people who were getting their discs through the mail before I even heard of Netflix I suppose, but Netflix and I sit around the bar laughing on slow nights, and neither one of us can remember exactly how long its been. They're an easygoing sort of company, and just feel more comfortable in their Dockers than a suit, and once in a while they'll throw things out like, "Remember when you had Adventures in Babysitting out for like three months? What the hell was that?" I'll smirk and take a sip of scotch and say, "Remember those commercials with all the `movie' characters that show up at your house? Those were frickin lame... Donkey."

Watchmen is a film that pushes the boundaries of the taxing question, how far do you go in judging a book by what's inside the cover. Of course, the book is such a book as well. It may sound decidedly odd to say that a work can fall victim to such a question, but once you evoke something more than a passing effort at philosophic exposition, you cannot then complain when logic negates your work... or at least takes shots at it.

When I set forth on the adventure this year, I could only come up with 24 movies. When I started going through that list, there were only four that I really felt absolutely had to be in the top ten. Worse still, I found myself pretty well stuck with that list of 24. I didn't really have anywhere to go with it, and apart from just going right for a list of the top four, I was having a lot of trouble figuring out what was going to go where. In the end, as you can tell by the title, I just threw in the towel. I had four I could convince myself to get rid of, and after that the year just wasn't worth any further effort.
