At the call of the Mobile, AL chapter of Veterans For Peace, military families and veterans from Iraq, Vietnam and other eras are marching from Mobile to New Orleans, together with survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The marchers plan to highlight the connection between the multi-trillion illegal occupation of Iraq and the shameful and racist failure of our government's moral, economic, and political response to the catastrophe in the Gulf Coast.

The march, called "Walkin' To New Orleans," will start on March 14 and cover more than 135 miles in six days. Its arrival in NOLA on March 19 will mark the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, and coincide with thousands of local actions across the US calling for an immediate end to the occupation.

Marchers will demand real empowerment for Gulf Coast hurricane survivors and for the Iraqi people.

Marchers will demand the immediate withdrawal of all US troops from Iraq and, as they come back, decent health care, employment, housing and education for them, including Depleted Uranium testing and post-traumatic stress (PTSD) treatment.

Marchers will demand that the US government provide funds for all Katrina families to be reunited and returned to their homes, and that survivors have the right to plan their future free from the dictates of the corporations and their politician front men in Washington D.C. and on the state and local level, too.

SUPPORT THE TROOPS.......BRING THEM HOME NOW!.......SUPPORT THE SURVIVORS

Chuck Norris doesn't sleep. He waits.

And he doesn't die, he feels no fear and the entire universe bows to his commands -- at least according to a couple of Web sites and a slew of mass-forwarded e-mails.

Norris, the karate master and former star of the TV show "Walker, Texas Ranger" and a bunch of action movies, is the subject of an Internet and T-shirt craze that rivals last year's Napoleon Dynamite mania. And nobody seems to know why. Especially not Chuck Norris.

"JUST THE FACTS

* Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door.

* The popular video game %u201CDoom%u201D is based loosely around the time Satan borrowed two bucks from Chuck Norris and forgot to pay him back.

* Chuck Norris is the only man to ever defeat a brick wall in a game of tennis.

* Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

* Chuck Norris is the reason why Waldo is hiding.

* Chuck Norris counted to infinity...twice."

In my experience, most people really liked working at Whole Foods for the first few months, blinded by the uniqueness of the store and by their hippie rhetoric of how we all mattered. But then people hit the six-month wall where they realize that it's all a bunch of BS, and Whole Foods is just like every other money-hungry corporation ... It's all a great, worker- and environment-friendly system until you get to the actual people working in the stores, stocking the shelves and ringing you up at the register."

A website created by the Madison organizing effort, wholeworkersunite.org, remains active as a gathering place for current and former Whole Foods employees critical of company policies.

"I would first apologize to all the widows and orphans, the tortured and impoverished, and all the many millions of other victims of American imperialism." In that passage, Blum goes on to explain that he would end American support for Israel and reduce the military budget by 90 percent. "That's what I'd do on my first three days in the White House," Blum writes. "On the fourth day, I'd be assassinated."

Protecting troops is a top priority but mobility also is a concern, U.S. military officials said Wednesday. According to a Pentagon report disclosed last week, more complete body armour could have prevented or limited about 80 percent of the fatal torso wounds suffered by US Marines killed in Iraq. The Army and Marine Corps are rushing to buy and deploy improved body armor that provides more protection for the sides of the torso, a weak point in U.S. troops' body armor configurations. According to a Pentagon report disclosed last week, more complete body armour could have prevented or limited about 80 percent of the fatal torso wounds suffered by US Marines killed in Iraq.
