Volunteer in Chile - Volunteering Abroad Oportunities

Chile, the longest country in the World, claims almost 3000 miles of the Pacific shoreline. This is a land of contrasts and extremes; with glacial landscapes of Patagonia in the south and the heat of the famously dry Atacama Desert in the north. Running almost the entire length of the country are the impressive peaks of the Andes mountain chain which are visible from many towns and cities.

Since Chile is one of the narrowest countries - only about 125 miles at its widest point, the sea and the mountains are never more than about two to three hours apart, anywhere in the country. Chile's striking natural wonders, its rich cultural history, friendly people and security make it an ideal volunteer location.

Chile has seen many changes in the past 25 years, now boasting one of the most stable economies in South America. Though Chile's economy appears to be the fastest growing economies in the region, Chile suffers from one of the most uneven distributions of wealth in the world. There are estimates that almost 60% of Chileans live near or below poverty levels, with almost 3 million living in extreme poverty.

Our programs allow you to take part in meaningful community service work, while discovering the people, sights, smells and tastes of Chile. Volunteering in Chile is a way to totally immerse yourself in Spanish culture.

This is a great opportunity to make life-long friends, learn a foreign language and discover that one person really can make a difference. Volunteer with us and see A Broader View of the World.

Volunteer in Ecuador - Volunteering Abroad Opportunities

Ecuador, a small South America country, is bordered to the north by Colombia, to the east and south by Peru, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. The country is divided into four distinct regions; the Amazon, the Highlands, the Coast, and the Galápagos Islands.

Compared with many South American countries, Ecuador is very small. Nevertheless in this limited area there are at least 50 types of natural terrestrial vegetation, diverse ecosystems and an immense variation in wildlife. Ecuador is one of 17 mega diverse countries in the world according to Conservation International. With 1600 bird species (some 15% of the world's known bird species) in the continental area, and 38 more endemic to the Galápagos. There are also 25,000 species of plants recorded; it has 106 endemic reptiles, 138 endemic amphibians, and 6,000 species of butterflies.

Today, Ecuador remains a multi ethnic and multicultural nation, where more than 14 indigenous groups maintain their own traditions and ways of life, to the delight of visitors. The country has a plentitude of national parks, wildlife reserves, natural springs, volcanoes and ecological reserves and beautiful cities. Ecuador gives the tourists a mega bio-diversity and a chance for great adventures in the mountains, volcanoes, jungle, white beaches and exotic islands.

Although in recent years Ecuador has benefited from a rise in tourism offer some economic relief, millions of people live below the poverty line, mainly children. Governmental statistics estimate that over one million children work to survive and maintain their families. Growing poverty, lack of education and limited governmental resources further worsen the problem of street children and orphans in Ecuador. A government study* concluded that 45% of the population between the ages of 10 and 16 are working, 60% of the children under the age of five are malnourished and a third of the population has not completed the first part of their basic education. (*First Congress on Nutrition Development, Quito 2000)

Our volunteer projects allow you to help street children and orphans in Quito, teach English in a local Andes village, work at one of the numerous ecology/conservation bio stations or animal welfare reserves located throughout the Amazon, coastal and Andes regions. Our programs allow you to discover the wonders of Ecuador, while doing meaningful community work. This is a great opportunity to enhance your Spanish knowledge, live with the locals and realize one person can make a difference.

Volunteer in Costa Rica - Volunteering Abroad Opportunities

In 1502, on his fourth and last voyage to the New World, Christopher Columbus made the first European landfall in the area. Settlement of Costa Rica began in 1522. For nearly three centuries, Spain administered the region as part of the Captaincy General of Guatemala under a military governor. The Spanish optimistically called the country "Rich Coast." Finding little gold or other valuable minerals in Costa Rica, however, the Spanish turned to agriculture.

Mention Costa Rica and people think paradise. The country's Disney-like cast of creatures -- ranging from howler monkeys to toucans -- is prolific and relatively easy to spot. The waves are prime; the beauty is staggering and the sluggish pace seductive.

Costa Rica, despite being such a tiny nation, draws well over a million visitors every year - and you can see why. The incredibly varied topography means you can cruise a cloud forest one day, climb a volcano the next, and finish passed out on a hot sandy beach.

Costa Rica is a tropical country and experiences only two seasons: wet and dry. The dry season is generally between late December and April; the wet season lasts the rest of the year. The highlands are cold: San José and the Central Valley get an 'eternal spring' with lows averaging 15°C (60°F) and highs averaging 26°C (79°F). Both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts are pretty much sweltering year-round - get ready for some bad-hair days. Temperatures vary little between seasons; the main influence on temperature is altitude. The humidity at low altitudes can be oppressive.

We offer the following programs in Costa Rica: (1-4 week placements - Optional start date)

Program Length: 1-4 weeks

Program Date: Flexible Start & End Date

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 hour per day

Accommodations: Local home stay or hostal

Meals: Yes, 3 meals a day

Requirements: 18 years +, Basic Spanish knowledge, an able body, can-do attitude, self-starter and adventurous nature.

Animal Welfare/Turtle Conservation: Placements are available in wild-life refuge which receives animals that have been in captivity or have been sold illegally by animal traffickers. The main objective of this project is to rehabilitate the animals and reincorporate them back into their natural habitat. Volunteers will feed animals and clean and repair cages. In addition, they will help build new cages and improve existing facilities. Volunteers will ordinarily work about 8- 10 hours per day, depending on the projects they are involved in. Most refuge centers offer on-site shared volunteer accommodation, including meals. These accommodations typically have electricity and running water, and shared bathrooms. Proficiency in Spanish is highly recommended. *2 week minimum suggested.

Indigenous Community: Live and work among the people of a multiethnic indigenous community with members of different ethnicities. The community obtains their income from fishing, agriculture, hunting, and horticulture, combined with handicrafts, communitarian tourism, conservation and reforestation. Volunteers will be involved in a wide range of exciting activities including teaching English at the local school, working at the children's day care center, rain forest restoration projects, horticultural and fish farming projects and infrastructure construction projects including work on a Women's Center. This is a great opportunity to experience the life and culture of the local indigenous people. Volunteers live with a local host family in a shared room; all meals are provided by the host family. Proficiency is Spanish is required, as well as an adventurous spirit. *2 week minimum suggested.
Social/Welfare Service:. Volunteers work at a local children's home which doubles as an orphanage and day care. The children range in age from infancy to 12yrs old, some with mild

Volunteer in Nepal - Volunteering Abroad Opportunities

Nepal is a magical Himalayan country with an unusually diverse landscape. Eight of the world's ten highest mountains, including Mount Everest, are found in Nepal, making it a haven for trekking, mountain biking, and hiking. The country is also known for its national wildlife parks, jungle safaris, river rafting, and its many beautiful temples and places of worship. Nepal offers visitors a mix of ancient and modern with common sites like cows walking down the streets, Buddhist monks talking on cell phones and local children playing on 1000 year-old temple ruins.

The population of Nepal is approximately 27 million people; almost half of them are under 18 years old. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, most people living on less than $1000 a year. Almost 80% of the population still makes a living from agriculture. The rate of unemployment is almost 50% and poverty levels are very rampant. Nepal's youth is quite large, accounting for almost half of the population. Many children are orphaned, abandoned, homeless and living on the streets.

Our orphanage program, located in Lalitpur (Patan) provides children with basic necessities like education, food, shelter, health facilities, in a nurturing community environment. Our programs allow you to take part in meaningful community service work, while discovering the people, sights, smells and tastes of Nepal.
This is a great opportunity to make life-long friends, learn a new culture from the inside out and discover that one person really can make a difference.

Volunteer in Uganda - Volunteering Abroad Opportunities

Uganda, the land of Lake Victoria, is situated in East Africa surrounded by Kenya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Rwanda. It has a population of 27 million, over half of which are under 18 years of age. Famously called the "Pearl of Africa" by Winston Churchill, it is home to one of the most diverse and concentrated ranges of African fauna including the highly endangered mountain gorilla and the chimpanzee.

Unlike its neighbors; Kenya and Tanzania with their built up tourist infrastructure, Uganda is still growing meaning visitors can experience "real" Africa. There are bustling open markets, lush subsistence farming, charming rural villages and a multitude of National Parks. Today, Uganda has one of the highest orphan rates in the world, mainly due to the terrible HIV epidemic that has engulfed Africa. There are over 2 million children living with this disease, most of whom are under 15 years old.

We have programs available in Jinja, Kampala and in the rural villages of Mpigi District. In this district, 98% of its population lives in rural areas, and subsistence agriculture is the major activity. The poverty experienced in this area is not just a lack of money but also the inability to access basic needs, such as health care and health facilities, voluntary HIV counseling and testing, as well as basic affordable education for the children.

Our programs allow you to take part in meaningful community service work, while discovering the people, sights, smells and tastes of Uganda. Volunteering in Uganda is a way to totally immerse yourself in East African culture.
This is a great opportunity to make life-long friends, learn a new culture from the inside out and discover that one person really can make a difference. Volunteer with us and see A Broader View of the World.
Volunteer opportunities are available in urban cities and rural village around the country.

Volunteer in Ghana - Volunteering Abroad Opportunities

Ghana is located in West Africa bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Togo and the Ivory Coast.

Formerly known as the Gold Coast, Ghana won its freedom from Britain over 50 years ago, becoming the first black African colony to achieve its independence. Ghana is a proud and safe country steeped in rich cultural history and tradition. The country still boasts 42 European forts and castles including Elmina and Cape Coast Castles which are all recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Monuments.

Vibrant traditional festivals full of pomp and pageantry can still be seen and heard throughout the country. Traditional open markets provide the sounds and sights of the African bazaar. Ghana has a diverse natural heritage which is rich in dense tropical rainforests, unique eco-systems, crocodile ponds, coastal wetlands, botanical gardens and the world largest manmade lake, Lake Volta.

We have programs available in the HoHoe and Ho Districts of the Volta Region and in Agona Nkwanta of the Ahanta west District. In these districts, 95% of its population lives in rural areas, and subsistence agriculture is the major activity. The poverty experienced in these rural areas is not just a lack of money but also the inability to access basic needs, such as health care and health facilities as well as voluntary HIV counseling and testing. Despite having a lack of such basic needs, the Ghanaian people are world-renowned for their friendliness. Most volunteers are humbled by the everyday happy attitudes of the local people.

Our programs allow you to take part in meaningful community service work, while discovering the people, sights, smells and tastes of Ghana. Volunteering in Ghana is a way to totally immerse yourself in West African culture and gain a broader view of the world.

This is a great opportunity to make life-long friends, learn a new culture from the inside out and discover that one person really can make a difference. Volunteer with us and see A Broader View of the World.
Volunteer projects are available in rural villages around the Western and Volta Regions.

Why Volunteer Abroad?

Have you ever considered doing one thing during your life that would make a complete difference to a child less fortunate? Have you thought about volunteering – a week, a month or even a day – your time in an overseas orphanage or school? What might seem to you an insignificant amount of time means everything to a child with little – or nothing.

Our organization, A Broader View, provides an opportunity to do something so rewarding, that we guarantee you will never forget it. Not only will you get the most fulfilling experience of your life, you will:

Make life long friends

Build your self confidence

Enrich your knowledge of a new culture

Gain foreign language skills

Experience a new location from the inside out.

Build your resume and gain work experience

Discover hidden strengths and skills

Expand your global horizons

Make a difference in the life of a child.

There are approximately 350 million child-slaves in the world; millions of war-victim children; and starving, sick, abused and abandoned little victims everywhere! The International Labour Organization estimates that 352 million or 23 percent of all children between 5 and 17 years of age were economically active (working) in the year 2000.

The amount of orphans in the World is staggering. Based on UNICEF 2005 report the number of children living in Chilean orphanages exceeds 200,000. In Peru there are over 2 million children living in extreme poverty; many living and working on the streets. Based on recent UNICEF reports, by 2010, sub-Saharan Africa will be home to an estimated 50 million orphaned children, and more than a third will have lost one or both parents to AIDS.

According to the ONE campaign, "Around the world, more than 100 million children are not in school and more than 60 million of these children are girls. Whether a boy or a girl, every child deserves the chance to go to school and have a hopeful future."
Think about this:

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation...you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.
The children of the World need our skills, spirit, time and support. You can make a difference. Volunteering in another country can be both challenging and rewarding. Volunteering while traveling abroad adds a satisfying dimension to your overall experience. Volunteering creates a feeling of personal satisfaction. It grants you a privilege not afforded to the typical tourist: a unique opportunity to experience local everyday life while making a positive impact. Volunteering abroad immerses you in a new culture which improves your language skills, gives insight of a culture from the inside out and hopefully broadens your view of the World.
who can never repay you” Anonymous
