The best part of today's Apple iPod Event at the Yerba Buena Arts Center in San Francisco came at the very beginning, when a frail but "vertical" Steve Jobs appeared on stage, with an appeal for people to register as organ donors, crediting his own recovery and liver transplant to "a good, 20s person who died in a car crash and was generous enough to donate their organs."

If the case against Libya was weak and also a fabricated one then a question arises- what is the other plausible theory? Who were the perpetrators of the terrorist attack on Pan Am 103? What were the motives for the bombing of the ill-fated Pan Am flight?

Apart from the Continental Airlines security check for former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam, earlier this year, Irrfan Khan was detained twice in Los Angeles, and Neil Nitin Mukesh was detained because he didn't "look Indian". Were Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt to be detained in this manner, instead of getting the usual grand welcome, the brouhaha would likely be quite deafening. While post-9/11 precautions and security are likely the cause of this confusion, database verification should have been easy.

Desicritics.org: Social Consolidation - Facebook Acquires FriendFeed

Personally, I might move away from FriendFeed if it begins to look too much like Facebook, which I found to be shallow and boring. The people I've come to know on FriendFeed are what I'd miss though, so I'd like to take my social graph with me wherever I might end up next. There's a business opportunity right there.

The government thus far has fumbled its response, having taken things lightly until recently, and even now, providing mixed messages at various levels - from state governments to the centre. Bureaucracy is a poor substitute for efficacious crisis management, and we might be better served to ask skilled managers like Delhi Metro chief Sreedharan and Nandan Nilekani to join with the best doctors of the country to formulate a national level response to the first major epidemic India has faced this century.

"I hate to hit the panic button but it seems there should be mandatory checks when people suffer from upper respiratory disorders. The death of a young child in Pune has led to a lot of finger pointing in the medical community. The horse, however, has already left the barn. A child died and if we do not take proper precautions this could become an epidemic of extraordinary proportion unseen since the time of Black Plague and the sole responsibility would lie in the hands of our government.

From the page: "Back in 2002, Pakistan was a country not many people knew about, and almost no one gave a shit about. in essence, the good old days.We forsook the talking about our country for a two minute video. the first slide began with the claim that pakistan was a country that was the bomb.

That was followed by a montage of pictures of beautiful pakistani women, and those of our nuclear missiles, played over Salman Ahmed's version of the national anthem."

From the page: "We have a culture of sharing and communication within Twitter and these stolen documents represent a fraction of what we produce on a regular basis. Obviously, these docs are not polished or ready for prime time and they're certainly not revealing some big, secret plan for taking over the world. As Peter Kafka put it, this is "akin to having your underwear drawer rifled: Embarrassing, but no oneâ€s really going to be surprised about whatâ€s in there." That is an apt analogy."
