Just got a Microsoft update for Windows XP which wants me to agree to this...
"12. LIMITATION ON AND EXCLUSION OF REMEDIES AND DAMAGES. You can recover from Microsoft and its suppliers only direct damages up to U.S. $5.00. You cannot recover any other damages, including consequential, lost profits, special, indirect or incidental damages.
This limitation applies to
* anything related to the software, services, content (including code) on third party Internet sites, or third party programs; and
* claims for breach of contract, breach of warranty, guarantee or condition, strict liability, negligence, or other tort to the extent permitted by applicable law.
It also applies even if Microsoft knew or should have known about the possibility of the damages. The above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you because your country may not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental, consequential or other damages."

Jump in the lake M$. You cannot impose new conditions on people when distributing updates because your software is full of bugs!

[later]: Haha! I declined M$s new terms and it went ahead and installed the updates anyway.

[later]: Well it said it was installing them and rebooted my computer and then asked me if I wanted to install the updates. What are those loonies up to?

Before I heard the Buddha's words, when I asked people who believed in reincarnation "If I cannot remember a past life, in what sense was it me?" and never received a meaningful answer. The Buddha explains:

Owners of their kamma are the beings,
heirs of their kamma,
their kamma is the womb from which they are born,
their kamma is their friend, their refuge.
Whatever kamma they perform, good or bad,
thereof they will be the heirs.
-- Buddha (M.135)

In the middle of May I decided to become a vegan. I was already a vegetarian and didn't eat eggs, so that mainly meant giving up milk products. I like cheese, especially on pizza, and milkshakes and chocolates. So the motivation had to be there. As a seriously practicing vipassana meditator (see http://www.dhamma.org/ for details) I make a commitment not to kill. That means not to support killing by eating meat. But in New Zealand, and I suspect in most other western countries, if you buy milk then you support killing. That is because nearly all baby male calves are killed as they do not give milk. Also, all calves are taken from their mothers at a very young age so that milk production can be maximized. Both calves and cows cry for ages at this separation. I cannot support such behaviour in any way.

Going around the supermarket looking at ingredients lists was a bit peculiar. I discovered that nearly all biscuits have milk powder in them and that nearly all bread is vegan. I have tried out vegan cheese (made from soy stuff) and it doesn't look as good as regular cheese, but it tasted quite OK. Vegan chocolate means no milk, which makes it even more concentrated chocolate. Mustn't eat too much at once. Vegan yoghurt must be an acquired taste - I can't say I like soya milk. I miss my cup of tea, but it isn't very interesting without milk. I am drinking water instead, and it is probably better for me.
