The Republican Party seems to be trying to imply there is something vaguely wrong about being eloquent. Which is really odd when you realize that one of our most eloquent past Presidents was a Republican. I'm sure Lincoln must have been spinning in his grave as McCain seemed to chastise Obama for daring to once more show his habit of waxing eloquent during the debate. I think Lincoln should pay McCain a visit this Halloween, and haunt him as the Ghost of Past Eloquence like the Ghost of Christmas Past haunted Scrooge in Dickens's eloquent tale. I think the Ghost of Present Eloquence should pay McCain a visit on All Hallows Eve as well. Oh and let's not forget Joe, the Ghost of Future Eloquence!

And if Goddess forbid the McCain/Palin ticket actually wins the election, does this mean that creationism will replace eloquence in our public school system?

Here is an excerpt from an entry I just made to my main blog entitled When anger turns to hope, "Yes we can!".

We cannot lose sight of the fact that although humanity is responsible for so much of what is wrong, we humans also hold the key of knowledge and wisdom that will allow us to learn from our mistakes, and mend what we have broken. Yes, we are at times our own worst enemy. But, we are also our own best friends and saviors if we just allow our own humanity to shine through in positive ways that make so many things possible.

Just a little note of sanity amidst all the craziness and negativity going on right now. Before we label ALL Republicans racist, let's remember that although Abraham Lincoln was not a Senator, he was actually a Republican. Yes, McCain and Palin are showing those tendencies. However, it is just as wrong to label all Republicans racist as it is to label all Christians gay bashing haters, all Muslims terrorist fanatics etc. and so forth. Let's keep the labels on the foreheads of the people they belong on, and not go sticking them willy nilly on any one group of people because of the actions and words of a few.

Many many thanks to Updoc1011 for clearing up what that overhead projector Sen. McCain took exception to last night during the debate is really all about :) The following is from his wonderfully enlightening blog.

Oh, and about that overhead projector that Sen. McPalin took issue with during the debate last night,

"$3 million for an overhead projector at a planetarium in Chicago, Ill. My friends, do we need to spend that kind of money?"

The 3 million is actually for an upgrade of the SkyTheater - a full dome projection system, which is probably the main attraction of the Adler Planetarium, one of the most engrossing, gorgeous venues for displaying visuals about space. The planetarium's focus, as stated on their website adlerplanetarium.org [adlerplanetarium.org] ) is "inspiring young people, particularly women and minorities, to pursue careers in science." Is an investment in such public facility at the time when US competitiveness in math and sciences is a constant source of alarm a waste?

A little skillet logic

Like a lot decent people I was appalled at McCain's use of the phrase, "That one" to refer to Senator Obama. Of course, after reading about the racial slurs and calls to violence at the Pitbull Palin rally I'm not overly surprised to see McCain resorting to such a dehumanizing tactic. If there is any good news to be had from McCain's behavior last night it is that behavior clearly showed how unfit he is to President of our great nation.

Another thing that bugged the heck out of me while watching the debate last night was McCain's assurance that he knew how to fix the economy and would do so. Yes, he mentioned a couple of times that it take both parties working together to fix the economic mess we are in. However, he seems to believe that he has the answer, and the ability to personally fix it. I don't know about the rest of We The People, but I really don't think any one man, or woman has the definitive answer to what it is going to take to fix this economic mess we are in. Nor do I believe any one man or woman can fix it. What I do believe is we need a strong President who is intelligent enough to understand this and present ideas of his own that will help fix it, as well as listening to the other people's ideas concerning how to fix it. Obama has shown that he can be the strong clear headed President this country so desperately needs.

I am ecstatic Senator Obama kept his gracious cool last night and did not lower himself to McCain's tacky standards. McCain came across as a feeble minded bigot who did everything he could to show his disdain and hatred for his opponent. Obama, on the other hand, showed everyone watching that debate what a brilliant and gracious gentleman he is. That is not to say he did not put McCain in his place on several occasions. However, the way he went about putting McCain in his place was beautiful to behold. More than ever before I am looking towards Obama as role model when it comes to dealing with people who make me want to smack them upside the head with a skillet. Perhaps in the future I will bake a batch of cornbread in that skillet, serve it smothered in butter and honey to those whose hearts are filled with hatred and bitterness, and whose brains are obviously lacking in food for thought. I doubt it will change anything within their hearts and brains, but it might keep their mouths busy for a moment, and give me a chance to graciously say what I want to. Once the skillet is empty, and I've had my say, I can always use it to gently whack them upside the head if absolutely necessary. ;)

After reading where racial slurs and calls to violence are becoming a part of Pitbull Palin's rallies I am so damn disgusted right now I could scream. I got some news Pitbull Palin and her bigoted fanatical "Sit down boy" "Kill Him" supporters can use. They better wake up and realize that one reason Obama is ahead in the polls right now is because an awful lot of everyday folks are tired as hell of the bigotry, hatred, and religious fanaticism that Pitbull Palin represents. I just hope that all those who see what happened at that rally who are decent people will be as appalled as I was when I read about it. I also hope Obama retains his gracious cool, and does NOT sink to McCain's level during tonight's debate. The LAST thing we need right now is for that to happen.

I am using Obama as a role model right now when it comes to keeping my cool around folks who irritate the hell out of me. I realize he can't just ignore McCain during the debate tonight as I recently ignored some trolls whose hate filled hearts incited them to try their best to get a negative response from me. However, he can stay focused on the issues that are really important here and not get into trading barbs with a man whose choice in running mates proves just how out of touch with reality he truly is.

I just added this entry to my main blog and thought I would share it with my SU friends as well.

Why Obama needs to stay positive

I've been reading a lot of articles talking about how both candidates are going negative with their campaign ads. I think both are making a major mistake in doing so. I am particularly disappointed to see Senator Obama sinking to McCain's level and focusing on trying to tear McCain's character down, rather than speaking about the positive plans he has for this country. I've already read all about McCain's involvement in the Keating affair. I know that according to what I've read McCain was less involved than the other four Senators were, but did describe that incident as the worst mistake of his life. I also know from reading several articles than Obama has no real connections to Bill Avery, and has denounced Avery's radical past.

I wish both candidates would STFU about those incidents and stop the character assassination attempts. Hell, We The People have already seen all we want to about the incidents being brought up. We The People really don't want to hear anymore more crap about what's wrong with the other guy. What we are hungry for is information that tells us which candidate is truly right for the job of President. Obama has been doing a great job of convincing me he is the right man for that job. He has done that by staying focused on the issues that concern me, making it clear he understands those issues, and is just as concerned about them. He needs to continue doing that, and NOT go negative at this point.

I realize that each candidate is trying to appeal to voters who have not made up their minds yet as to who they feel is the right man for the job. But, Obama needs to understand that going too negative in his ad campaign, and at tomorrow's debate could wind up backfiring on him. Obama needs to appeal to the undecided sector out there not with negativity, put rather with positive words that make it plain he has the best plan for this country.

The reason I have become such a firm supporter of Senator Obama is because I have been greatly impressed with the plans he has for this country, as well as his gracious nature and gentlemanly ways. If I could speak with him right now I would have this to say, "Please, Senator Obama, don't let me down and sink to the same level as McCain and Palin have. Kindly keep in mind that a lot of us supporting you think you are good man who has the potential to become a great President. Don't lose sight of that fact, or faith in yourself. Remain the gracious gentleman you are, and speak to us about the positive plans you have for this country. Our hearts are hungry for a positive change, make sure you feed that hunger. Do not allow yourself to be devoured by the beast of negativity that has become the driving force of McCain's campaign."

Just some quick thoughts on the bailout/rescue plan Congress is attempting to come to an agreement on. Whether they call it a bailout plan, or a rescue plan, what it really amounts to is a 700bn parachute that will insure that Wall Street makes a safe landing after flying far too high for way too long. We The People need to understand that although many of us don't like Congress attempting to hand Wall Street that parachute, unless we want to see what will amount to truly devastating effects, that 700bn parachute is a necessary evil. But, that parachute needs to come with attached strings than insure a safe financial future for not just Wall Street, but for Main Street America as well. I'm not any happier about the idea of that 700bn parachute than many of you reading this blog entry are, but I am also not willing to see and experience the devastating effects that Wall Street's fall from grace will result in should it hit rock bottom. I just hope to hell if Congress can come to an agreement concerning the rescue plan, that parachute does come with the necessary attached strings I mentioned earlier so that future generations do not have to experience another such fall from grace.

After surprising the heck out of myself last night and actually watching the debate between Obama and McCain, I must admit I found that debate much more interesting and informative than I thought I would when I switched the channel to watch it. I was very much impressed with Obama's calm demeanor throughout the debate, and by the passionate love for this country that one could see beneath the calm veneer. Being in the current emotional state that I am in, I am far for impressed by any person, be they Presidential candidates or whatever, who makes an effort to appeal to my sense of logic and reason, than by people who use a bunch of flowery words aimed at inciting high emotion in my stony little heart. All in all, I was much more impressed with Obama's calm passion and views on foreign policy and the current financial mess this country is in, than I was with McCain's constant smirks and declarations of being a "true maverick".
